Dear Families,
With state testing underway, we want to reach out and ask for your help and support as we offer this opportunity to our students.
How does the Gresham-Barlow School District use the test results?
State tests are one way for us to determine how we are doing in meeting the needs of all of our students. These tests provide information on areas where our teaching has been effective while also highlighting areas where we can improve. We know that one measure cannot tell us everything we need to know about student learning. This is why we look at multiple measures such as student grades in the classroom, iReady scores, and state test results to get the most accurate picture of how our curriculum and instructional practices are meeting the needs of our students. State tests are a chance for your student to let us know how we are doing in serving them!
How does my student benefit from taking the state tests?
The state tests provide a snapshot of your child’s learning and progress. It is important to remember that the state test only covers a portion of what your student learns during the school year. When combined with other data such as student classroom grades, state test results can highlight general areas of strength and potential opportunities for growth.
How much time will testing take?
The state has been working hard over the past few years to reduce the amount of time that it takes for students to complete these state tests. For the English Language Arts test, most students will complete the multiple choice section in about one hour and the writing portion in about two hours. For the Math test, most students will complete the entire test in about 90 minutes.
In the Gresham-Barlow School District, we are deeply committed to inspiring and empowering each student and ensuring that every student in our schools has the support they need to achieve at high levels and graduate prepared for their next steps.
Please reach out to me or your child’s teacher(s) with any questions you may have.
Queridas Familias,
