Crosby Scholars Senior Program Newsletter - April 2020
Crosby Scholars Community Partnership
Our Mission
We will assist public middle and high school students in Forsyth County in preparing themselves for successful college enrollment.
Our Vision
We seek to ensure that every public school student in Forsyth County has the opportunity to attend college.
CFNC College Redirection Pool
Students create a profile through CFNC with information that includes GPA, test scores, and anticipated major. This profile is then available to colleges and universities throughout North Carolina. Colleges can reach out to the students who meet their specific admissions requirements and recruit them to attend. When recruited, students will also be given information about the financial aid that could potentially be awarded to them from each college.
If your original plan for college fell through, or if you are starting the application process a little later, using this resource will provide you with information about many different colleges and will help you make the most informed decision about your next step.
NACAC College Openings Update
Search to find which schools are accepting applications. This is a helpful tool to use along with the CFNC College Redirection Pool. https://www.nacacnet.org/news--publications/Research/CollegeOpenings/
Last Dollar Grant
The Last Dollar Grant will be live in your Crosby Scholars Portal soon. Read on to prepare the documents you will need to apply! You will receive communication from Crosby Scholars when the LDG is open to apply.
Crosby Scholars who complete the Program Senior year with a cumulative weighted GPA of 2.0+ are eligible to apply for a Last Dollar Grant (LDG) for up to four years.
In order to be considered for a LDG, students must demonstrate not only financial need but also remaining need after the school of choice has awarded aid. To determine eligibility, the Crosby Scholars staff completes a need analysis on each scholar individually. Even if the LDG is not awarded the first year, scholars can reapply three times.
Students applying for a LDG must complete the application and upload the following documents in their Crosby Scholars Student Portal:
1. A copy of the letter of admission from the institution the student will attend
2. A copy of the financial aid award letter from the institution
3. A copy of the entire Student Aid Report (SAR)
Seniors Rock
Are we going to refrain from celebrating our seniors just because we had to cancel the gala? Indeed not!! You have worked hard, dealt with many disappointing cancellations during these last few weeks, and continue to persevere, and you have our utmost respect and admiration. Crosby Scholars cares about the alternative path that all of you are walking, and we submit that you are still moving forward toward your post-secondary goals and dreams. Congratulations on all you have accomplished and will achieve in the coming years.
*WWFRS?
In these uncertain days, when all of us have more questions than answers, we can take comfort in this thought and continue asking difficult, and sometimes unanswerable, questions. And be grateful for those around us who listen with ears and heart and truly hear us when we speak.

National Candidates' Reply Date
The National Candidates Reply Date is May 1; however, many colleges are extending the deadline. Check here for to see if your college is on the list. When you have confirmed your enrollment plans, notify the other colleges from which you have received an offer of admission that you will not attend. Those colleges can then offer admission to students on their wait list.
Don't Move and Forget to Tell Us Where You Went!!!
Update your Crosby Scholars Student Portal with your enrollment plans once you’ve made the final decision. There is a drop down option on your profile page with most colleges and universities listed. If you are having trouble, check the post in your Crosby Scholars Student Portal titled, “Steps to Update Your College Name in the Portal,” for detailed instructions. If your school isn’t on the list, e- mail seniorprogram@crosbyscholars.org, and we will add your school.
