Friday Flyer
Second Grade
Dear Second Grade Parents,
We have some important dates we'd like to share with you:
- Friday, February 12 is our Valentine's Party. Please make sure that your child brings in a valentine for each classmate. Thanks in advance to parents who are bringing in snacks and drinks!
- March 21-25 is the week of Stanford Testing. If you can, please refrain from scheduling appointments or trips during this time.
- April 29 is State Hats Day. Children will be choosing their states after spring break.
- May 12 is our field trip to the National Museum of the American Indian. Each child needs to bring one adult as we will take the Metro. We will leave CHS at 8:45 am and return to school around 2:30 pm. More details will be sent home closer to the time.
In math this week, we concluded our geometry unit with learning and building 3D shapes. Next week we will focus on addition for 3 or more addends. Please continue to practice basic math facts at home.
We said farewell to our arctic study by sampling bannock bread, a recipe passed on to Mrs. King when she visited the Northwest Territories many years ago. The children are now learning about the Pacific Northwest peoples. They labeled maps of the region and have learned about the landscape. We read Totem Pole by Diane Hoyt-Goldsmith and discovered why totem poles are built. Next week, Ms. Holzer and Mrs. Opdahl will be teaching a lesson on totem poles which will require you to read some information on a website at home with your child. The link will be sent to you next week.
We enjoyed having Mrs. Rodriguez's book club present to us about their author study on Kevin Henkes. These First Graders did a wonderful job and we applaud their hard work!
Thanks to Mrs. Opdahl for our digital citizenship lesson on tone of online communication. For one of the activities, the children worked with their partners to edit an email so that the tone was more respectful.
Have a great weekend,
Emilia and Rachel
