Cooper Cubs
A Note from the Principal...
Hello Cooper Families,
We introduced our new Cooper Newsletter last week and while we sure hope you like the new layout and design, the purpose is for communication from school to home. One great feature of the newsletter is that it can be shared via facebook, email, and on our website. Again, our goal is to effectively communicate with you. So be looking for important dates to remember and events here at Cooper in our Newsletter!
Fall Conferences 9/28 and 10/3
We are wrapping up district assessments just in time for Fall Conferences (please sign up here) and the Wisconsin Dept. of Public Instruction will soon release individual student reports from the Forward Exam students took last spring. Teachers will have this information at conferences beginning next week. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, September 28th and on Tuesday, October 3rd.
Do you have any questions or concerns?? Don’t hesitate to call or stop in. I’m here to ensure you and your children enjoy Cooper as much as we do!

PBIS
PBIS at Home
Work-Respect-Belong
(W-R-B)
As part of PBIS (positive behavior interventions and supports) in school, we have defined what our expectations are throughout the school, and we would like to encourage you to do this as a family at home also. We know that the consistency of language and practice between school and home is important to student learning and understanding. Some families have a “home” behavior management system that already is set up and works, if that is the case please use this as an exercise to help remind your son/daughter(s) of your family expectations. Some families either don’t have or would like to strengthen their “home” behavior management system. This is an option that will seem familiar to your child(ren) from school as a way to lay out the expectations for your family at home.
Attached is a blank Work~Respect~Belong…At Home sheet. (Students have seen, heard, and learned from a sheet that looks very similar at school since the beginning of the year) What we would recommend that you do as a family is sit down, talk about, and fill out expectations for the labeled areas (Getting up, Mealtime, Family jobs/chores, Time to relax/Fun, Learning time/homework, and Getting ready for bed). If you would like to add, remove, or edit any of the areas feel free to do so. (There is an example sheet attached that may help if you are stuck). As you write your expectations together state what you want to see, avoiding the words no, not, and don’t. For younger children, these expectations could be pictures in addition to words. Decide as a family where you can post or store them as a reminder. Finally, and almost most importantly, as parents, find a way to reinforce and reaffirm the successes of your son/daughter(s) in accomplishing these goals. The goal of PBIS is to have at least five praises for every one correction. One way we do this at school is through our Cooper Kudos. We also reward positive choices with intermittent celebrations of good behavior.
Easy Step-By-Step Instructions…
Fill out blank home expectation sheet as a family (trust your kids and their high standards)
State all expectations in a positive way (what you would like to see)
Post them as a family
