Who is the FDA?
The Food and Drug Administration is a federal agency of the United States Department of Health and Human Services. This agency is responsible for establishing some guidelines for animal research.
What is the FDA?
The FDA is responsible for protecting and promoting public health through the regulation and supervision of:
- food safety,
- dietary supplements,
- prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceutical drugs,
- vaccines,
- bio-pharmaceuticals,
- blood transfusions,
- medical devices,
- EREDs,
- cosmetics,
- animal foods,
- veterinary products.
What guildlines?
- The FDA must approve all food and drugs before they are sold for human or animal consumption.
- Before they can be approved they must be tested in a lab on animals before moving on to humans (Medical devices also fall in this category).
