Principal's Point to Ponder
"Custodians of the Culture"
In class this past Saturday, I learned one of the mantras of the Compass Group Corporation. The mantra is that "Everyone is a custodian of the culture." How true this statement is! As we begin this new school year, we know that we have laid the groundwork to strategically address our school's culture....both the student culture and the staff culture. We have worked on the relationships among our whole staff and within teams. We have developed a new and improved school wide discipline plan. We have committed to following the expectations in our staff handbook. We have beautified our campus and our classrooms, and we have adopted a school wide character development curriculum. Whew! But, why are we doing all of these things? We are doing these things so that we can create the optimal learning environment for our students. After all, student learning is our top priority. So, as you cross the threshold of Statesville Road's door on Monday morning, remember that the adults in our building shape the school's culture. Therefore, each one of us is personally responsible and a custodian of the culture. So, do your job as a custodian well this year and be awed as Success Takes Flight!!
