4th grade will be introduced to our new author, Katherine Paterson. Each week, they will be introduced to 10 new vocabulary words and will have a quiz on Fridays over those 10 vocabulary words plus comprehension questions over the chapters we went over. We will go over what a simile is, how are the constructed and examples. Students will look at some of the creatures used in the movie version of the novel and then create heir own mythical creatures. Students will then take on the role of one of the characters discussed and write a letter to Dear Abby.
5th grade will be introduced to our new author, Carole Marsh. Each week, they will be introduced to 10 new vocabulary words and will have a quiz over those 10 vocabulary words. Students will concentrate on The Constitution of the United States of America and how it was established and protects the fundamental rights and liberties of all citizens. We will go over the First Amendment: Religion, Speech, Press, Assembly, and Petition. In Social Studies, we will continue going over Our Government and will move into the Civil War.
6th grade will be introduced to our new author, Armstong Sperry. Each week, they will be introduced to 10 new vocabulary words and will have a quiz on Fridays over those 10 vocabulary words plus comprehension questions over the chapters we went over. Students will concentrate on point of view, setting, cause/effect, theme, figurative language, comparing texts, and plot development. At the end of the novel, we will watch the movie to compare/contrast the two. We will work on prefixes, suffixes, root word, and context clues. In Social Studies, we will begin Latin America.
