Getting Back on Track
Dean of Students Kelly Adams has been meeting with students who are on academic probation to help them understand the expectations to exit probation. Students receive a form with the class or classes listed for which they need to develop a plan with their teacher. Students have until 12/22 to complete their plans and earn their teachers' signatures, clearing them from probation.
Teachers will have a variety of expectations for the students depending on which standards they need to make up. Some standards won't be revisited later in the school year, while others will. The important next step is that students on academic probation make time to meet with their teachers. The goal is to get students to be accountable, connect with teachers, make a plan, and follow through. Ultimately, we want students to meet the academic standards for all of their classes. We do recognize that some students take longer to do this than others, but they need to demonstrate that they are committing the proper habits of work to get there.
Calling students in absent
We are required to document why your student is absent. If you leave a message, let us know if the absence is due to flu symptoms, Covid, gastrointestinal issues, etc. The CDC requires us to provide a report of why students are out sick any time that we reach 15% absence due to illness. We came very close this past week. It is also helpful to our school health care team to be able to talk to parents about what their children may be experiencing.
Thanks for your help.
Chorus & Band Concert
All are welcome to join us for the WMS Band and Chorus concert on Wednesday, December 14 at 7pm in the auditorium. This year we are back to one combined concert, and the students have worked so hard in their ensembles! All concerts are free, general admission and open to the public.
Students in the ensembles should plan to arrive by their “call times” (the time musicians gather for their performance), which have been made clear by Mrs Williams and Mrs. Edwards. Attire is dark bottoms and solid-colored tops, unless students are opting for dresses. While our concerts are not formal events, we encourage students to strive for a slightly more professional look than the normal school day.
Can’t wait to see you there for some joyful music making! Please contact Mrs. Edwards (jedwards@rsu16.org) or Mr. Williams (lwilliams@rsu16.org) with any questions.
Planning Ahead: National History Day
On February 15, Whittier will make history with National History Day! This year, projects will be judged in person. We need your help, because approximately 90 judges will be at Whittier and we would like to provide them with snacks and coffee. How can you help? We are taking donations of fruit, individual packages of chips, baked goods, coffee k-cups, individual creamers/sugar and disposable coffee cups. Donations can be brought in to Mrs. Fox. For more information, please email nfox@rsu16.org. Thank you!

Unfortunately, our shortage of bus drivers affects us not only in transporting to school, but also transporting to games. This was the case for Monday's girl's game at Tripp. Please keep your fingers crossed.
