The topic of Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) was on the agenda at last week's Regular Board Meeting but the Board of Education decided to table this item and schedule this Special Committee of the Whole meeting where the Board would have more time to see the presentation and then discuss.
At this meeting, District 25's Director of Facilities, Ryan Schulz, District 25's Assistant Superintendent of Business/CSBO, Stacey Mallek, and Superintendent Dr. Lori Bein presented on the following items related to Full Day Kindergarten:
- Detailed look at available classroom space per building
- Construction and Operational Cost Projections
- Funding Options
- Offset with Increased Class Size
- Tax Rate Increase
- Decrease Fund Balance to 25%
- Offset with Budget Reduction to Other Areas
- Timeline Review
The Board asked Dr. Bein to bring back more detailed information on:
- Full Day Kindergarten at each elementary school.
- Full Day Kindergarten at a FDK center:
- construction of a new building.
- utilizing a current school by constructing an addition and redistricting students.
The Board set a goal of making a decision in March 2022.
