Message from the Principal
The success of Saturday’s Fly-In, Cruise-In was the culmination of many long hours and hard work which countless people dedicated to the event. Our event Chair, Jack Izbicki, worked for months on end with the various committees and the community to ensure there would be plenty of car and plane entries, sponsors, food, entertainment, attendees, and of course, marketing and volunteers to pull off the event. None of it would have been possible without the Naples Airport and the fabulous staff. Check out the Fly-In, Cruise-In photos posted by Marie Coleman on Flickr or the ones posted by Rita Kentros on Facebook. Also, thank you Marie for the video posted above.

And, of course, countless adult and high school students. Also, many staff brought their family members to help including Pam Wilken, who had relatives visiting from Wales, Jeannette Kostka who had her husband serving pancakes and Victor Velasquez and Coach Monahan who dragged their sons out bed and put them to work. If I left anyone off the list, I apologize, it was not done intentionally. I appreciate all that you do for our school and students. Saturday’s event, with the perfect weather and the large turnout of people, including many of our former students, left no doubt that the community is behind us. Save the date – Saturday, March 5, 2016, the 5th Annual Fly-In, Cruise In.
Tech Corner
Digital Learning Day - Fri, Mar 13th is the fourth annual Digital Learning Day when the focus is on using technology to enhance a student's learning experience. How will you celebrate using innovative digital content and technology tools on Friday?
OverDrive - On March 11, 2015 our two OverDrive eBook online libraries will merge for easier access. LWIT/LWTHS piloted eBooks in CCPS and in Fall 2014, the school district began making eBooks available throughout the county. Students and staff will have 24/7 access to all materials available by the district through OverDrive. Access will be the same. LWIT and LWTHS students will use their network login. Staff members will use their network user name as their “Library Card Number” and their 10-digit employee number as their “PIN” number. If you or your students have any questions regarding OverDrive, please contact Adam Janowski in the library media center.
Instructional Strategy - Helping Students Elaborate on New Content (Marzano’s element #11) can be focused on unfamiliar vocabulary. Using the Discovery Education SOS, 2-1-4, with the reveal of 2 facts, 1 clue and 4 pictures, one could ask students to create their own Powtoon with a focus on one particular vocabulary term. In this example, I used the foundation of Ten Principles of Economics. Asking students to think about, find, capture and produce images and multimedia representations of their own idea of vocabulary and concepts has been found to be helpful in comprehending new knowledge.
Do you use YouTube in teaching your classes? Have you created playlists to stay organizes and help you find those great videos when you need them? REMINDERS
Student Services is busy working on planning LWIT’s graduation ceremony for May 28, 2015. If you have questions or concerns, feel free to stop into Student Services for assistance..
- We need your help! Please do not park in the visitor parking spaces. Many elderly customers have to walk long distances for services because the lot if filled by student vehicles. We don't want our customers to become discouraged and stop coming to our school because they need to park so far from the building. There is plenty of parking in the high school lot for students. Please help us keep visitor parking available for our visitors as it was intended.
- March PLT reflections are due on 3/31.
