ILEARN Information

Indiana’s Learning Evaluation Assessment Readiness Network (ILEARN) is the summative accountability assessment for Indiana students in grades three through eight and high school biology. ILEARN measures student achievement and growth according to Indiana Academic Standards for English/Language Arts for grades three through eight, Mathematics for grades three through eight, Science for grades four and six, and Social Studies for grade five.

Attention All 8th Graders

Summer School Gym: Those of you taking high school gym during the summer need to turn in the yellow physical card (dated on or after April 1, 2023) to the gym teacher on the 1st day of class. Yellow cards can be found in the nurses office or our school’s website. For students with asthma needing to use their inhalers before or during gym, turn in the Asthma Action Care Plan to the high school nurse before gym class starts.


Physicals: All incoming freshman need to get a physical, (dated on or after April 1. 2023) and turn it into the high school nurse on the 1st day of school-August 16, 2023. Those of you involved in sports will need a physical AND an IHSAA form to be completed.

Unpaid Balances

Please continue to check your students' mealtime balance. All cafeteria purchases are to be prepaid before meal service begins. Parents may send payment three different ways:


  1. Send cash in an envelope with student’s name on it.

  2. Households can prepay on line their student accounts by visiting mymealtime.com.

  3. Parents can also send in a check for any amount of meals desired.

We are starting to plan the 8th grade celebration which will take place at Taft on Friday May 19th from 3-4:30. If you are interested in helping plan this last big event at Taft, please email taftmspto@gmail.com.


Also, we will soon be selling 8th grade yard signs. We will post more information in the next couple of weeks.

21st Century Scholars

Attention 7th and 8th grade families: It’s never too early to start planning for college. The 21st Century Scholars Program allows income eligible Indiana students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana college or university after they graduate from high school. In order to be considered, applications must be completed by June 30th of the student’s 8th grade year. If you would like to get out of the house for a few hours a day and earn some extra cash, please consider working in our cafeterias and or kitchens. Plenty of time to have breakfast at home, do some house work and then head into work for a few hours and be back at home in time for the kids to get home from school. Textbook/Student Fees

Please make sure to check your students account for any outstanding balances. Balances can be viewed and paid through your Parent Access account. Prompt payment is appreciated.

Did you know that you can adjust the notification settings in ParentSquare? Simply log in to your account on your computer's web browser or the ParentSquare app. Click on "My Account" and "Notifications". More instructions are available on the ParentSquare website.

Cell Phones / Earbuds

Please remind your students that cell phones need to be turned off and in their lockers during the school day. In addition, wireless earbuds will not be allowed at school. All students will receive wired earbuds to use throughout the school year. Students are allowed to bring headphones from home, as long as they are able to plug into their Chromebook.

School Lunches

The federal program that provided free breakfast and lunch for all students has ended. If you need meal assistance OR textbook assistance, you must complete a free/reduced application at www.cps.k12.in.us/food.


The cost for a full lunch this year is $2.65. Various items can also be purchased ala carte. Breakfast costs $1.50. The school menu is highlighted below and is subject to change.
