Muddy Sneakers Monday!
Aquatic Ecosystems at Bent Creek
What to Bring on Muddy Sneakers: Monday, May 8
We’re excited to be outdoors for a special Muddy Sneakers expedition! Students will at Bent Creek from approximately 9:00 AM until 1:30 PM, getting their feet wet and studying the aquatic ecosystem of Bent Creek.
In order to participate, you’ll need to make extra preparations:
Bring an extra pair of closed-toe water shoes. Old sneakers or boots, or closed-toe sandals, are great. Flip-flops, open-toed sandals, and Crocs will not be allowed. If students bring only one pair of shoes, they might not get to wade in the creek.
Wear clothes that you can get wet, and bring a spare pair of dry clothes. Or, wear a swimsuit and extra shorts under your hiking clothes. We only wade ankle-deep, but should still have a dry set of clothes.
Temperatures first thing Monday morning will be in the low 40s – please dress to stay warm before getting in the creek (for example, long pants and a jacket).
Bring a plastic bag to carry your wet shoes home - a used grocery bag works great.
Bring sunscreen and/or a hat if you need them for sun protection.
Optional: bring a towel to dry off after our time in the water.
Please also bring your usual Muddy Sneakers supplies:
A packed lunch, from home or school.
Two full bottles of water. (Please no sugary drinks, including soda.)
1 backpack per 2 students – you’ll borrow a 2nd backpack from Muddy Sneakers.
Pen or pencil and a notebook.
Comfortable walking shoes.
Please do not bring:
Cell phones, iPods, or other electronic devices
Fishing gear
Sugary snacks or drinks: soda, candy, chewing gum, etc.
Anything extra, like books – they’ll just make your backpack heavier!
Thank you for being prepared!
