St Jerome's Newsletter
Week 1 - Term 1 (Friday 6 February)
Dear Parents and members of our school community
Message from the Principal
Welcome to the start of what promises to be an exciting and fulfilling year for the staff, students and wider parent community at St Jerome’s Primary School. To the families who have joined our school for the very first time in 2020, I offer you a very warm welcome and am delighted that you have chosen to send your son or daughter to our school. Welcome to new staff members Vanessa Alaniz, (Assistant Principal), Larissa Paratore (Music), Tara Matthews (Science), Chloe Kramer (Year 4), Nancy Palermo (EA, Special Needs), Debbie Holdder, (EA, 3 Year old Kindy). It is also great to have Scott Lilleyman (Year 5 Teacher) back after leave and an amazing Camino pilgrimage.
When we reflect on the many achievements of 2019, we are reminded that our focus has been, and will continue to be based on what is in the best interests of the child. Our commitment to each child will continue to be at the forefront of our planning, our thinking and our doing.
We will continue to align our school direction with that of the Catholic Education Commission of Western Australia’s (CECWA) Strategic Directions 2019 – 2021 and of our own Strategic Plan so that we are part of a collective vision and purpose. Integral to this direction will be ensuring that the needs of our community are met so that we continue to provide education of excellence in this changing and exciting educational landscape.
I ask all parents to refer to the school Code of Conduct which describes minimum standards of conduct in all behaviour and decision making within the school, to ensure the safety and well-being of students.
Please click here to view Code of Conduct
Keeping our children safe whilst at school is our top priority, with the safety measures currently in place designed to safeguard students and to affect optimum learning in the classroom. Listed below are several safety measures currently in place in this regard:
· Visitor register in and out of the school
· Visitor name tags
· Electronic absentee notification
· Closed Circuit Television
· Controlled access with exterior gates shut at 9.30am
· Staff and student training on emergency procedures (drills)
· Duty teacher and educational assistant supervision of all play areas.
It is important that the matter of school safety is everyone’s business. So I ask that you keep your eyes open and report hazards or concerns to the Principal or Assistant Principals through the administration office. Together we can create a great place to learn.
As the school term begins, may we celebrate the amazing blessings we have and look forward to many wonderful learning and community opportunities ahead.

Sacramental Program 2020
This year the parish are in the process of setting up ‘Online Enrolment’ for all the Sacraments. They hope to formalise the procedure by next week, and provide the necessary information for parents through the school. As a result, there will be no need for an Enrolment Weekend for submission of enrolment forms next weekend as advertised previously. Instead, towards the end of February/early March, after the closing date for ‘Online Submission’, the parish will organise a weekend for parents to present their children, who are preparing for a Sacrament, at Mass to the parish community and for a special blessing.
Any parent of a child who is not of the Catholic faith and who would like their child to become a Catholic and receive the sacraments, should contact Mrs Soly Fernandez in the parish to discuss the process.
Carol Hoare
Assistant Principal Religious Education
What a wonderful, welcoming community I have had the privilege of joining here at St Jerome’s. My name is Vanessa Alaniz and as Assistant Principal, I am looking forward to meeting members of the school community. I have been in education for over twenty years, beginning my teaching career in Manjimup. Since then, I have worked in almost every year level at a number of schools, including 3 year old kindy. I have also taught Drama, Music, Visual Arts and Children with Additional Needs. I am lucky enough to have worked in Early Years leadership and development with Child Australia and The Learning Hub, as this is one of my passions. I believe that children learn best when they feel loved, comfortable and safe and I can see the staff at St Jerome’s work hard to promote this kind of environment for our students. Thank you for the friendly smiles and greetings I have already experienced, as I have wandered through the school and I look forward to the year ahead.
