Principal's message - week 40
Greetings North Plains Families!
I hope to see many of you tomorrow at our garage sale! We are hoping to make a lot of money to support the 6th graders going to Washington D.C. next year. There will be fresh pita bread, hummus, and veggies for sale as well. If you have other ideas for fundraisers, we would love to know them! Please send your fundraising ideas to Elise Rodemack at mailto:elise.rodemack@gmail.com
if you are interested in the new school coming to North Plains, you are invited to attend a neighborhood meeting on Thursday, May 10, 6:30 p.m., to discuss the proposed construction of a new elementary school in the Sunset Ridge development. The meeting will take place at the Jessie Mays Community Center, 30975 NW Hillcrest St. This project is funded by the HSD Bond with the goal of building for the future. Read more here.
Next week is outdoor school! 6th graders leave Monday morning for Trickle Creek and get back on Wednesday afternoon. They will have a great time!
Also next week is our spring canned food drive, sponsored by Ms. Bottema. Please bring non-perishable goods to help needy families in our area.
Wednesday evening, May 9, is McTeacher night at the North Plains McDonalds! Come in between 5-8PM and you'll see NPES staff behind the counter serving up your dinner:) It should be a lot of fun and we get 20% of all sales! For me it brings back a lot of memories as my first job was at McDonald's in Medford, OR. Drive thru is my favorite, so hopefully you'll see me at the drive thru window!
On Friday, May 11, 1st and 2nd graders are off to the Children's Theater to see Frog and Toad. 3rd grade students go to OMSI that day as well, so it will be quiet around here!
The annual "Proud to be HSD" festival is coming up May 12 at the Hillsboro Saturday Market. Unfortunately we don't have a Hawk Mascot to send this year, but hope to have one by next year. It's always a lot of fun so hope to see you there!
Last Friday our staffing was announced for next school year, and unfortunately we have to say goodbye to two teachers. Students have not been informed of this yet, but in case you are hearing rumors, I want to make sure you know what is going on.
We've been reduced from 14 classrooms to 13 due to our enrollment projections, and because other schools have been reduced as well, some teachers had to move around. I had two late hires last year, Ms. Imada and Ms. Wright, which means those positions were temporary. Losing one classroom meant one of these teachers would not come back, and due to another need, we are getting a teacher from another school. This means that both Ms. Imada and Ms. Wright will not be back at North Plains next fall. They are a part of our North Plains family and will be missed!
Next week I'll tell you about our new teacher and announce some other changes coming our way.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Becky
