Zilker Library: February/March 2017

Spring is Sprung!

Zilker Family,

What a busy past few months we've had in the library! We had a very successful book fair in February that raised $3,500 for the library! Plans for the money raised include purchasing more MakerSpace supplies & storage to better organize the space, fund an Author Visit in May (more info coming soon!) and purchase next year's Bluebonnet Award nominated books.

Speaking of the Texas Bluebonnet Award...218 students attended the Bluebonnet lunches in January and voted for their choice of the winning book. Find out which book won the 2017 Texas Bluebonnet Award below!

And the 2017 Texas Bluebonnet Award winner is...

Roller Girl by Victoria Jamieson!

Congratulations to Roller Girl, the 2017 Texas Bluebonnet Award winner! Roller Girl was also the Zilker pick for the Bluebonnet Award with 32 out of 218 votes. Every single one of the 20 nominated books had at least one vote this year!

Thanks to the 3rd, 4th and 5th grade teachers for their support of the Bluebonnet Award program!

First Page Frenzy!

5th grade tied their genre study of historical fiction into their library time with an activity called First Page Frenzy. Students had one minute to read the first few pages of a historical fiction novel and decide if it sounded like one they would like to read. It was a great way to discover some new books!

What's Coming Up?

It's hard to believe that there are just a few more months left in the 2016-2017 school year! So, what's coming up in the library? Here's a preview:

-more MakerSpace activities!

-I Love My Library activities in April to celebrate National Library Month

-2nd Annual Poetry Picnic for 3rd-5th grades

-A super special Author Visit in May!

If you are interested in helping with the organization and activities in our MakerSpace, let Mrs. Sharp know!
