Two BHS Students Named "Shining Stars"

Congratulations to Jennifer Pan and Sara Du who were selected as "Shining Stars" in the 2017-2018 Disneyland Resort Dreamers & Doers program! Dreamers and Doers celebrates the power of possibility and honors students who are taking action to improve their communities and schools through four focus areas: Strengthen Communities, Think Creatively, Conserve Nature and Live Healthier. Dreamers and Doers may be eligible to receive Disneyland Resort theme park tickets, an invitation to a symposium and celebratory luncheon, a stay at the Disneyland Hotel, and more. Shining Star winners like Jennifer and Sara will each receive a $1,000 grant for their school, and students selected as a Luminary will have the opportunity to award a $3,000 grant to their favorite Orange County charitable organization.

Breakout Edu is a fun, puzzle-type activity that engages students in math in completely different ways. InBreakout EDU games, players work collaboratively to solve a series of critical thinking puzzles in order to open a locked box.

Beckman Robopatties competed again Sunday, January 21st in Bishop's School in La Jolla with our N, X, and Y teams. The teams did very well during the qualifications round with X and Y going 5-2 to place in the top ten (out of 30) and our N team going 7-0 to be the only undefeated team in the qualifications. In the long, a grueling tournament, the X team finished as semifinalists and the Y and N team finished as finalists. Solar Panel Project Set to Begin March 5th

Parents, Students, and Community Members,

As you are aware, Beckman High School has been preparing to install solar panels in a large area of the school parking lot. The project has seen several delays, but as of last week, we have an official start date and project timeline. The project will be done in three phases (see attached for images). The first phase will affect the back lot and begin March 5th. The second phase is slated to begin on April 9th and will impact the lot in front of the swimming pool. The third (and largest phase) will begin on May 28th and will impact the lot near the corner of Bryan and El Camino Real North. Please note: the start dates for phases 2 and 3 are estimates as they are dependent on the completion of prior phases.

On March 5th phase 1 will begin. Two areas will be fenced off in the back parking lot (off El Camino Real) which will impact traffic flow, student parking, and staff parking. We have worked closely with the City of Irvine to secure a parking variance for the duration of the project to allow parking on the school side of the street on both El Camino Real and El Camino Real North. We will also have striped a blacktop area to accommodate the loss of staff parking. During phases 1 and 2, we have secured enough temporary parking to cover all potential lost parking.

Having received a final phasing timeline, we are now able to issue parking permits to Juniors and Seniors at NO CHARGE. These permits do not guarantee a parking spot, they simply allow a student to park in the lot. As in prior years, sophomores will no longer be permitted to park on campus. Seniors will be able to pick up permits at the student store on January 30th and 31st. Juniors will pick up permits on February 1st and 2nd. There will also be two makeup days on February 5th and 6th pending permit availability. Students must provide valid Drivers License, School ID, Registration and Proof of Insurance before a permit will be issued. Permit must be adhered directly to the lower corner of the driver’s side window and must be adhered to the car of the student who requested the permit. Permits are not transferable and lost permits will not be replaced.

Begining February 7th, all cars parked in the Beckman parking lot will require a permit!

We appreciate your patience during this process and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
