Elements of a crime

Whether you knew it or not, crimes aren't just crimes! There are several elements that have to exist before an act can be classified as a crime. Elements refers to several factors that must exist when defining or determining if something exists in the eyes of the law.

EXAMPLES

Awareness: If a person from another area claims that they didn't know the speed limit was 25mph, they weren't aware of the difference from where they live.


Violation of Duty: If a teenager sprays graffiti on a public building, it is a clear violation of duty.


Criminal Intent: If a girl goes into a convenience store with a knife drawn and commands money from the cashier, she clearly has a criminal intention.
