Panther Post
October 24 - 29, 2016
Hello Lopez Families,
I didn’t get a chance to write about our Pantherama last week, but I have to say it was awesome! Thank you to the PTA for the huge amount of work they put in for this event to be a success. We had a lot of families that came out to support this event, which gave our student groups an avenue to raise money for their clubs by setting up booths which worked out great!! We also had a great dance afterwards with a lot of parent volunteers as well. We appreciate your efforts to provide a safe and fun environment for our students.
I also want to tell you about two really neat 8th graders. Over the last month or so, we noticed two students doing something helpful without ever being asked. In the mornings during breakfast, Charles Morris has been seen going around picking up trays left by other kids in the cafeteria and placing them on the return racks. He has been doing this simply because it needed to be done. What a wonderful attitude! During lunch time, another student, Sean Morrison, stays behind outside and helps pick up trash off the tables to clean up the area before heading to class. Again, no one has asked him to do this, he just does it because that is the kind of person he is. Amazing kids! Thank you Sean and Charles for what you do! Below are selfies I took with them, Charles in the first, and Sean in the second. I have not learned the art of the selfie :(
Also, a message from the district:
NEISD Council of PTAs would like to invite you and your family to a morning of fitness, wellness & fun. Join us at the Back the Future Family Engagement Rally on November 5, 2016 from 9 am - 1 pm at the NEISD Sports Park (12001 Wetmore Rd, San Antonio, TX 78247).
The event kicks off with a 9:15 am opening ceremony followed by a FREE one-mile fun run. All attendees are encouraged to wear their school spirits shirts. The event includes a Live DJ, games for all ages including the NEISD rock climbing wall, a health fair, food preparation demonstrations, fitness demonstrations, food trucks, door prizes, and an opportunity to join each NEISD PTA.
One last thing. KENS TV ran a story Friday morning about the veterans letters. Last week it was on another news station so it is good to see the great publicity, and they spelled my name right this time :)

LOPEZ PTA THANKS YOU
Greetings Lopez Families,
Thank you for a great start to the PTA year. We are excited to welcome so many Lopez families who joined us this year. It was great to see so many of you celebrating Lopez’s 10th Anniversary at Pantherama! This was our biggest Pantherama with over 800 wristbands sold to students. Thank you to the many volunteers and staff members who helped make it a night to remember. We had a great time bouncing, eating, dancing and more!
Membership is going strong this year. Your quick response to membership has earned us the “Head Start” and “Early Bird” awards from the Texas PTA. This is great news, but our goal is to have each student represented in the PTA. Your membership strengthens our voice for children. If you haven’t joined yet, it is not too late. Membership is just $6.50 and is open to everyone related to your student (students are welcome to join too). Joining is easy at joinpta.org (there is a $1.50 fee) or you can go to our website and print out our Membership/Greenback/Spirit Items form.
We also wanted to take the opportunity to thank so many of you who purchased our spirit shirts and generously donated to the PTA through the Greenback campaign. Your support helps the PTA fund activities like Pantherama and the 8th Grade End of Year Party as well as invest in our school and students’ education. Membership dues, Greenback donations and spirit shirt sales are the only PTA fundraisers. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
If you’re looking for more information about the Lopez PTA, we would love for you to follow us on Facebook at Jose Lopez Middle School PTA. We also have a great website lopezpta.org which recently received a makeover. We hope you’ll visit frequently so we can keep you informed.
As a final note, if you need a letter acknowledging your Greenback donation or would like a PTA membership card, please let us know. We will be happy to provide those items upon your request. Please direct your requests to:

Membership cards Michelle Lapierre membership@lopezpta.org
Thank you for your support!
