BSD WEEKLY
August 24, 2020
Message from Superintendent Don Grotting
Dear BSD Community,
Last week, I highlighted the extraordinary efforts of our Teaching & Learning department, which includes teachers, support staff and administrators — many of whom have been volunteering their time over the summer to make certain that we’re ready for online learning in the fall. This week, I’d like to recognize the efforts of our departments that support what goes on in our schools. Without the work of these exceptional employees, our District simply could not function. Back-to-School Information
The start of the school year is going to look a little different this year. But don’t worry, we’ve got this! Visit our newly updated Return-to-School webpage. In addition to our Return-to-School FAQ, we’ve added information about student verification, school supplies, meal benefits and internet connectivity. You’ll also find helpful links to community resources like food box distribution, Clothes Closet and organizations that provide housing and utility assistance.
Student Success Kits
Thank you to everyone who donated to our district-wide School Supply Drive! We appreciate your support!
We’ve teamed up with the Beaverton Education Foundation and other community partners to try to provide Student Success Kits to 16,000 BSD students who receive free and reduced-cost meal benefits. Kits will be distributed the week of September 7.
Can you help us reach our goal? Please consider donating to the BEF Back-to-School Equip Campaign. Time is running out!
School Year Calendar
The District is working with our teachers’ association on a new 2020-21 school calendar. We hope to have it available later this week.
Reminder to Complete Student Verification
If you haven’t already, please complete the District’s back-to-school verification process in ParentVUE. We encourage parents to complete the required annual process before school begins. Verification allows you to double-check that important information is up-to-date in our system.
Visit our Back-to-School Verification webpage for instructions.
Kindergarten Registration
Make sure to register your kindergartener as soon as possible. You can do so online. If you need help, call your elementary school. If you need translation services, call our Multilingual Department: 503-356-3755.
