Job description/duties:
1.Pediatric physicians must have general medical knowledge and an understanding of how treatments affect different developmental growth stages.
2.A pediatrician is a physician who cares for children of all ages through all types of childhood illnesses and diseases. She must practice patience and remain calm and positive to soothe the fears of sick children and their worried parents.

education needed:
- Pediatricians must complete four years of college.
- four years of medical school.
- 3- to 8-year residency.
- They must also acquire certification through the American Board of Pediatricians.
work setting:
Pediatricians work indoors in places that are well lit and comfortable. Most pediatricians, almost 40 percent, practiced in a suburban environment in 2010, according to the academy. Ten percent worked in a rural setting, while 22 and 29 percent of pediatricians, respectively, worked in either the inner city or an urban, non-inner city environment. On average, pediatricians work about 50 hours per week. But they also spend another 4 hours per week helping the community through education, schools and government, professional group activities or providing free medical care to the needy.

For a pediatrician out of residency for just a few years the average starting salary is around $135,000, while overall the average pediatrician salary is in the area of $175,000 a year.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), physicians and surgeons, the occupational category that pediatricians are grouped in, could see a 18 percent increase in jobs from 2012-2022

I think that being a pediatrician would be right for me because I love working with kids and it would give me the opportunity to help others in need.
