News from Conyers Learning Academy
March 30th, 2021
Dear CLA Families,
We hope everyone had a wonderful and restful Spring Break. The students were all very excited to be back to school yesterday, to see their friends and teachers, and get back to their daily routines. Last summer, CLA purchased and installed new playground equipment. Unfortunately we were not able to use it to start the year. Now we are finally able to have students use our new playground equipment and they love it! We continue to only allow one class on the playground at a time and wash our hands before and after each use. Our new playground has many new amenities, from sensory panels, a roller slide, and glider swing which allows access to students in wheelchairs!
Starting this week, the IDPH has changed their guidance and the COVID exclusionary symptoms for students and staff. Please review the following symptoms:
Symptoms are identified as fever (100.4 or higher), new onset of moderate to severe
headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea,
new loss of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches.
that would require students to quarantine. They have removed “runny nose, stomach aches, nausea, and changed cough to “new cough.” If you have questions about these changes, please do not hesitate to contact our office or school nurses.
With only two months left in the 2020-2021 school year, here are some important dates to know.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

CLA Early Childhood Parent Resource Center
The staff at CLA have worked very hard to create an amazing NEW website for Parents and Families. This site will give families access to many of the important resources and materials we use with your children throughout the year. We hope these resources will help us build a stronger connection with the school environment to your homes. In addition to providing families with materials that can be used at home, the NEW “CLA Early Childhood Parent Resource Center” provides parents and families with access to many of our local community resources, support for families with specific special education needs, and even a link to ask for more information on any specific topic. Our hope is this new site will enhance our partnership with all of our parents and families.

Rolling Meadows Schools Food Drive
We want to thank all of our families who were able to donate to the Rolling Meadows Schools Food Drive earlier this month. All of the food donated was provided to the Palatine Food Pantry to support our local community. Between all of our schools, we were able to fill an entire school bus full of the donations. After the food drive, the raffle winners of the Pie the Principal drawing were selected. Here is a video of the students who won Pie the Principal (Click this link for the video. CLA’s winners start at 9:40). Everyone had an amazing time and the students loved throwing the pies at Mr. Warren!
Registration for Next School Year is OPEN for ALL Students
The registration portal on Infinite Campus is OPEN for all students for next year. There have been a few changes in the registration process for next year. If your child is entering 4th or 7th grade, you will be required to provide the school with updated copies of THREE proofs of residency after completing the online registration. If you are entering Kindergarten, please read the information below.
Kindergarten Registration for 2021-22 School Year
All students who turn five-years-old on or before September 1st are eligible to attend Kindergarten in D15 next year.
For ALL students who attend CLA, when you register online, you will need to select “EXISTING D15 Families.” If your child has older siblings in elementary or junior high, you will also be asked to register them as well at the same time.
ALL Kindergarten students will be required to go into their home school and provide them copies of their child’s required medical forms, THREE proofs of residency, and birth certificate. The CLA Office will not be able to pass on the copies provided when you enrolled your child at CLA.
If you are not sure which elementary school your child will attend, type in your address to this website - https://www.locatemyschool.com/map/ccsd15#
Students with an IEP - Every student with an IEP at CLA will have a transition meeting before the end of the school year to discuss your child’s kindergarten placement, services, and supports. For some students, they may be recommended to attend an elementary school other than their home school with a specific program. During this registration process, please submit all required documentation to your home school. If you have any questions, please contact the CLA Office.
Second Language Assessments - Starting in March, all students attending kindergarten next year will be required to fill out a new Home Language Survey. These forms have been sent home with your child (virtual families will get the form at the next material pick up date). We ask that you compete and return this form as soon as possible. For any students who have a second language spoken at home, we will be scheduling a time to complete the language assessment while they are at school prior to the end of the year. This assessment will help determine if your child qualifies for Second Language supports and services in Kindergarten.
