Charger Connection
Fishers Junior High School Newsletter Sept. 17, 2021
Note from the Principal
Greeting Charger Parents,
The school year has gotten off to a great start. However, I would like to bring to your attention a new Tik Tok trend that has been circulating on social media, and Fishers Junior High School is not immune. Please discuss this with your student and encourage them "to say something if they see something." We need everyone's help in this matter. Thank you.

Hispanic Heritage Month
(September 15-October 15)
A little history- Hispanic Heritage Month began in 1968 as Hispanic Heritage Week (under President Lyndon Johnson) and was expanded to Hispanic Heritage Month (under President Ronald Reagan) in 1988. It was enacted into law on August 17, 1988, on the approval of Public Law 100-402. Why is September 15th significant? It is the anniversary of independence for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on September 16 and September18, respectively.
We've got a collection of books available in the library on our special collections shelf. The shelves feature books by Mexican and Latin American authors and about the experiences and contributions of people from those regions.

Charger Strolling Strings

On Sept. 11 St.Vincent Fishers and the Fishers Fire and Emergency Services held a day dedicated to teaching the public about safety. As one of the fastest-growing communities in Hamilton County, Fishers is constantly seeking to engage with residents in diverse, meaningful ways. Safety Day, presented by Fishers Fire & Emergency Services seeks to do both.
Members of the Charger Strolling Strings was invited to provide musical entertainment by performing a selection of patriotic themed songs to celebrate this event. This year, Charger Strolling Strings combined with the choirs of HSEIJH and FCJH to perform the piece "America, the Beautiful". Mrs. Cornet, director of the Charger Strolling Strings, is pleased to announce that the group has been asked to perform at next years event, Saturday, September 10, 2022 at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater.7th Grade Math Classes

Mrs. Baney's Choir Classes

Earlier this month, students in each of the three choirs at Fishers Junior High had the opportunity to learn choreography for the choir theme song from professional choreographer, Hannah Drumm. Ms. Drumm specializes in show choir choreography and costuming, and works with several of the premier show choir programs, including Edgewood, Franklin Central and Fishers High School.
Students had already learned the song, "Be the Change," as a forward focus theme. The song expresses a message of hope, encouraging both singer and listener to see beyond difficulties and be a positive force for change in their own lives and communities.
Choir students will perform this song together at their first concert and throughout the year. We all can benefit from the reminder that "together we can be the change."
