INSPIRE, ENGAGE, EMPOWER!
GROWING GREATNESS through teaching student's about "Integrity"
January's vocabulary word is "INTEGRITY". The definition can be as simple as "telling the truth" and "being honest" or we can take it deeper and help our children to understand that it is "always doing the right thing even when nobody is looking". Integrity is really about sticking to what we value and believe, even when peer pressure is involved.
Teaching children about integrity is very important. We are helping to prepare children for situations and challenges they will face, as they grow up, where they must consider what is right and what is wrong, and then make a decision and act on it. Along with this, children need to learn how important it is to tell the truth, even if it means they may get into trouble. Adults respect children more when they tell the truth, even is the truth is disappointing. We must also teach children the importance of keeping their promises. These actions help to build trust with the people in their lives, which creates lasting relationships.
The best ways to teach integrity is through modeling this behavior yourself, sharing real life experiences and examples, and by giving positive reinforcement when children demonstrate integrity themselves. Let's work together to instill integrity in our children!

Stephanie Leasure

Front Office Guidance from Mrs. Hilterbrand and Miss Myers:
Please check to make sure you have a back ground check on file if you wish to volunteer in the classroom, help during the school day for any reason, or attend field trips. You may stop in to the North Side office for the volunteer form. We will also need a copy of your drivers license. Please note that background checks do take at least two or more weeks to process.
Now that the weather is colder, please know that students will go outside for recess if the temperature (including windchill) is above 10 degrees and it is not raining. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather since we all know the temperatures have been all over the place.
If your child is ill, please make sure to call your child(ren) in sick to school. You may call before school hours and leave us a message, if needed. Our number is (260) 347-1354. If we do not hear from you, we will call to check in on your child. Please remember the 24 hour rule, they should be fever free, vomit free, and diarrhea free for 24 hours before returning to school.
*Please make sure to call our office BEFORE 2:00 p.m. if you need to change your child's transportation on the way home for that day. This allows us time to share this information with both the teacher and your child before dismissal begins at 2:40 p.m. Your child's safety and making it home is our #1 priority. We appreciate you helping us with this!

I wanted to take a moment to share some valuable information about a fundamental skill that plays a pivotal role in your child's early literacy development—phonological awareness.
Phonological awareness is the ability to recognize and manipulate the sounds of spoken language. It lays the groundwork for successful reading and writing skills, making it a key aspect of your child's educational journey. By fostering phonological awareness, we aim to equip your child with the tools necessary for language mastery.
I'd like to break down this concept into a few components to provide a clearer understanding:
Rhyming: Recognizing and generating rhyming words.
Segmentation: Breaking words into individual sounds.
Blending: Combining individual sounds to form words.
Manipulation: Changing or playing with sounds within words.
You play a crucial role in nurturing your child's phonological awareness through everyday activities. Consider incorporating the following into your routine:
Reading Books: Choose rhyming books or those with repetitive sounds.
Singing Songs: Engage in singing songs and nursery rhymes.
Playing Games: Have fun with word games that involve rhyming or sound manipulation.
Incorporate phonological awareness into your daily interactions. For instance:
Clapping Syllables: Clap out the syllables in familiar words.
Play with Sounds: Experiment with sounds during casual conversations.
Understanding the significance of phonological awareness is crucial. It serves as a foundation for reading and writing, enabling children to decode words and improve spelling skills. If you have any concerns about your child's phonological awareness, please know that it's a skill that develops with practice and support. We are here to provide resources and guidance to ensure your child's success.
In Tune with Attendance and Safety with Mr. Perlich:
Attendance:
Welcome back from break! Let’s start off the second half of the school year on the right foot and make attendance a priority! As I have stated before, attendance has been better this year and we want to make sure it continues. Your child gets the most out of school when they are on time and attend every day. Absences do not start over for the second semester. Absences accrue over the entire school year. Please look at the East Noble Attendance Policy so you know the steps we take when you get a letter or a phone call. We want the best for your child and want to work with you. Please reach out if you have any questions! (Attendance Policy is below)
Safety:
December was a short month for us when it came to drills. A fire drill and shelter-in-place were the only drills we practiced. As we start up in January, we will practice with a fire drill and a lockdown drill. We practice drills to make sure all staff and students are prepared in case we are ever faced with an emergency. We continue to look for ways to make our practices better. We take safety seriously and want to make sure your children feel safe while at North Side. If you should ever have questions, please feel free to reach out to me at jperlich@eastnoble.net.
The Nurse's Nook:
Please make sure your child is wearing a coat to school. If your child does not have a coat and you need assistance getting one, please reach out!!! I have resources and would love to assist you in making sure your child stays warm this winter.
- Side note – be sure to write your child’s name in their coat, hat and gloves. These items are misplaced often. This helps us to make sure we can locate the owners of lost coats and gloves 😊
Friendly reminders:
- Your child must be fever-free, without fever-reducing medication, for 24 hours before returning to school. The same applies to vomiting and diarrhea.
- Please send a change of clothes in your child’s backpack for those occasional accidents or spills. I will do my best to provide your child with a change of clothes, but if I do not have the appropriate size, I will have to call home and ask for a change of clothes.
- If your child has clothes that they have outgrown, I am always accepting clothing donations!! This is how I keep my “extra clothes” stocked. I am always in need of pants and underwear, sizes 6-12. Don’t worry, clothes are always washed before I give them to students 😊
PTO CORNER:
Happy New Year from your Parent Teacher Organization! Our group of parents were hard at work the first half of the year bringing joy and support to our North Side staff and students, and we look forward to what the second half of the year has in store.
We would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the parents who donated their time and resources to make our special events a success. It was such a joy to be able to bond with one another through our service in our children's school community. We all make a great team!
Please check out our calendar to see what we were up to the first half of the year, and to get a sneak peek at what we have in store for the second half!

Nutrition Notice with Mrs. Yates:
The admin team tried to serve the students on the last day of school before winter break. They realized this job wasn't so easy...students were baffled to see them behind the counter serving food and taking names. However, the admin did notice something MAJOR - our cafeteria ladies know our students! They know which type of food the students will choose, they know which flavor of milk they like, and they know some of their interests. Great relationships are built in the North Side Cafe Line!!!!
