October Newsletter
Our time together has been fa-BOO-lous!
It is hard to believe that it is already the end of October!
To the left, you will find a picture of our first Kindness Award recipient. Every month, house teachers nominate a different student who consistently shows kindness both in and out of the classroom. This month, the Badger Burrow proudly nominated Lola. Congratulations - we are so proud of you!
In our October Newsletter you will find a brief description of what is happening in each class, important upcoming events/dates, and pictures. After viewing the information, please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We are looking forward to a SPOOKtacular finish to the month of October!

Fall Parent Teacher Conference
- Tuesday, November 5, 2019 (4:00-7:30PM)
- Thursday, November 7, 2019 (4:00- 7:30PM)
At Lineville, we utilize a twenty minute student-led conference format in place of the traditional ten minute teacher led conference. There are many reason as to why we organize our conferences this way. Student-led conferences allows you to hear directly from your child as to what they are working on, how they are doing, and how they are feeling about school. However, while they are sharing their prepared materials, we will be present to answer questions and provide feedback to how your child is preforming. This format also allows you to take as much or as little time as you would like. Again, each time slot is 20 minutes, but if you wish to stay a bit longer or leave a bit sooner you can. The flexibility to host more than one student at a time means that you won't have to wait in the hallway. Since conferences are student-led, your child should accompany you, with their iPad, in order to show you what they prepared.
If your child has a math teacher in a different house, you will receive a narrative about their progress. If you would like to speak with them directly, you will need to contact them to set up a time that works for both of you to either meet or hold a conference via email/phone.
As stated above, we will not be using Teeso this year to sign up for conferences. This year, you will sign up for conferences through, SignUp Genius (direct link to the Badger Burrow sign up below).
Together is better
Math is faBOOlous
European Explorers
In the Classroom
- We are currently testing on our first unit - adding and subtracting fractions. Our next unit will be adding and subtracting decimals. We continue to explore and manipulate parts of a whole in different ways through active learning experiences. Many parents are asking what students can be working on outside of the classroom if they have completed their homework at school. At home, students can be completing additional math practice on Freckle, eSpark or Prodigy. All programs have individualized tasks assigned to each student.
- If your child has math second hour, your child is part of our flexible grouping. What this means is that students are organized intentionally and fluidly for different learning experiences between four different math teachers. Groupings can be fueled by classroom assessments and/or other characteristics of the student. The groupings are well-matched with the possibility of switching to another group during a different unit in order to fulfill the needs of the students. This means your child could have any of the teachers below. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know!
Science/Social Studies
- In Science, we are spending our first semester exploring different types of ecosystems, human impact upon the environmental and the importance of the water cycle. We have so many exciting activities and experiments planned!
- In Social Studies, students just finished up our map unit. All students completed a project upon a country of their choosing. Overall, we were impressed with how well students did on their projects. Grades are posted in Power School. We are now diving into our European Explorers Unit.
Language Arts
- We just finished up our first reading unit on book clubs and took our first assessment. Students have done a great job showing stamina with their reading.
- We began our first writing unit, which is a personal narrative. We started by identifying a claim and backing it up with evidence.
- Coming soon - our first book group books. Students will be encouraged to do some reading at home so they can discuss the books in class. Stay tuned for more information on when the book groups will be launching.
