Elementary School News
Welcome Back Edition - September 16, 2020
Principal's Message:
THANK YOU for your incredible support as we work together to "Reopen" our Elementary School following NYSED and DOH guidelines. It has been an incredible six days - welcoming your children back into our classrooms, hallways, & playground has filled the hearts of each and every member of the HCSD! #BulldogPride in abundance!
The Elementary reopening plan is also available on our school website on the Elementary Welcome page and the Principal's page. I invite you to check out all the resources and information available to you on the District Webpage.
For our Remote Learners and their families, we thank you for your continued patience and flexibility as teachers work to build their schedules and update you daily. Our focus for the first few weeks of school is on building relationships with students, building a sense of Classroom Community, and particularly in light of the March COVID-19 school closure, extra attention is being given to Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and activities. We know the transition back to school for all students, in-person or remote, is an adjustment. Your child's teacher will communicate with you directly regarding any materials or learning packets to be picked up at school (there is a yellow pick-up box and a purple drop off box located in the lobby for you).
School meals are available for all of our Remote Students. Please call Food Service Director, Sheila Lowe, directly at (585) 229-5171 extension 3022 and leave a voicemail with your contact information. Mrs. Lowe will get back to you directly regarding days and times of meal pickup.
Arrival: Please access the ES loop via the Allens Hill Road entrance and through the parking lot, not through the usual Main Street access. We thank you for taking the "long way" so that any traffic backup does not block Main Street for other vehicles and/or Emergency responders.
Dismissal: THANK YOU families for your patience as we work through the new Number System! We appreciate you displaying your numbers and know that not all families have received them. Currently we are working through providing numbers to those families that have sent in a note, attention Mrs. Kathy Hoertz - Elementary Main Office Secretary, indicating that they will be permanently picking up their child/ren from school. Numbers are assigned by family - so if you have more than one child at HCS ES, it is the same number. Right now the weather has been lovely and we are able to all enjoy the fresh air at dismissal, but soon, NYS winter will be upon us and we will be waiting indoor. Displaying your Number Card in the passenger window is very helpful for us to quickly identify and escort your child/ren to your vehicle. Thank you!
Masks: All students have done an amazing job getting used to the new protocols here at school. Teachers provide regular mask breaks throughout the day. When on the playground, students do need to wear a mask and remain socially distanced (with friendly reminders from staff). The NYSED and DOH guidelines require a mask if 12-feet of social distance is not maintained during "aerobic activity" - meaning heavy breathing that happens when kids run around on a playground or field.
Please refer to the Elementary Reopening Plan for full details and answers to your questions. Also, please reach out at any time to your child's teacher or myself at mwright@honeoye.org
