Ernie Pyle Elementary School 2022-2023 ~ February 3, 2023

Message from the Principal

This week Ernie Pyle staff and students had the amazing opportunity to see our student's stories come to life. Congratulations to all of our students who entered the contest and a HUGE well done to our playwrights who saw their words come to life. At Ernie Pyle, learning is full of fun and excitement!

Our 6th-grade students had the opportunity to visit the middle school and have a personal visit with the counselor. They are so excited about what the future brings.

Ned Show

Tuesday, February 7, our students are invited to a NED show performance where the message is that "There's a Champion in Every Kid." This is a pay-it-forward assembly that does not cost our school anything and in exchange we sell their yoyos to fund the next performance. Students will be able to purchase yoyos on a preorder form or at the front or back gate after school next week. There will also be a supervised yoyo play area for the week on campus at lunch recess for students who purchase them.

Meet Patricia Reyes - Ernie Pyle Community Service Worker

Hello, my name is Patricia Reyes, and I am the new community services worker at Ernie Pyle Elementary. I have been working for Bellflower Unified School District for 11 years and serving as a case manager for 5 years. I am excited to work with Pyle’s community to help connect families with academic, social, and essential resources. I am excited to be at Ernie Pyle Elementary and can’t wait to meet all of Ernie Pyle’s families!

Safety First

This week our teachers were provided a special safety training by an LA County Sheriff. We appreciate the partnership that we have in BUSD with our police department and the plans that have been made to keep our staff and students safe at Ernie Pyle!

If we were to have an emergency on campus that would require students to not return to the classrooms, our student pick-up area would be in the back of the school on McNab. The two gates at the corners of the field would be used for parents to come based on the letter that their last name begins with. Last names with A-L would be at the gate closest to the staff driveway and students with a last name that begins with M-Z would be dismissed from the gate closest to Rosecrans. Parents or guardians would need to bring their ID and be one of the designated people allowed to pick up the student from school based on what was completed and included during the data confirmation process. If you need to add or change this please contact the school office. We would communicate this through our automated calling and email system as well. If we were to have an emergency where students needed to evacuate the campus our pick-up area would be Bellflower High School.
