Are You Ready for Some Football?!??
As we kick off a new week here at Mirage, our morning meeting focus will be on the important skill of Effort. We’re working hard to connect the idea of exerting full Effort to our school RULEs of behavior:
R: Respect Everybody
U: Use Kind Words and Actions
L: Learn by Taking Risks
E: Engage in Safe Activities
Putting true Effort into following our RULEs allows students to get the most out of their education. Like top athletes exert full Effort on the playing field to succeed, our students must give their all in the classroom through engaged participation, asking questions when they're unsure, and pushing themselves to keep learning.
With the Super Bowl coming up this Sunday between the hard-working Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, we can think of how football players demonstrate incredible Effort during games and practices to make it to championship level play. They don't let obstacles, mistakes, or fatigue get in their way - they keep striving. Our students can apply that same perseverance to their schoolwork. When they encounter difficulties with a math concept, writing assignment, or group project, they can channel the Effort top competitors show and push through to the finish.
Let's make sure our kids know we believe in their ability to give full Effort, whether it's on the playground equipment during recess or tackling multiplication tables in class. Please reach out if you have any questions about how we instill the ability to strive and thrive in young learners here at Mirage.
As always, thank you for your partnership in education!

January 6 Pillars of Character Honorees!
We would like to have a huge shout out for all of the students that were recognized in the month of January for exhibiting outstanding character. As you know, each week the classes select one student to be submitted for their class as an exemplar. Then a primary student and an intermediate student are selected at random. Their name is announced over the loudspeaker, and they receive a certificate to commemorate the honor. The following students were nominated by their peers as exemplars in the different Morning Meeting foci from week to week:
Bo in Ms. Desch's Class for Kindness
Dylan in Ms. Cobery's Class for Kindness
Payton "Bear" in Ms. Bosman's Class for Rules and Expectations
Nevaeh in Ms. Kline's Class for Rules and Expectations
Crystal in Ms. Legg's Class for Zones of Regulation
Khloe in Ms. Joralmon's Class for Zones of Regulation
Logan in Ms. Brieske/Stewart's Class for Goal Setting
Gunnor in Ms. Desch's Class for Goal Setting
Bowen in Ms. Proper's Class for Perseverance
Megan in Ms. Platt;s Class for Perseverance.
Some of these honorees are hot of the presses and this newsletter may be the first they've hear of their big win and the announcements and certificates will be going out tomorrow!
Congratulation to all of the above mentioned role models!
Clean Up Crews Return!
In an effort to instill more community pride and address some recent issues with littering and vandalism around our campus, we are reinstating an old Mirage tradition of having students participate in grade level cleaning crews. Each grade will be assigned a time to focus on the school grounds and they will be responsible for keeping it tidy. Areas include the field, outdoor bathrooms, and play structures. Students will take turns cleaning up litter and reporting any vandalism.
In addition to the cleaning crews, we are hosting friendly school-wide clean up challenges that could result in the reward of a whole school game of rock-paper-scissors! Ask your student to share more details about how their class is participating.
We hope these efforts help nurture our students' sense of ownership and pride in the appearance of our school. Please let us know if you have any other ideas for promoting community spirit!
