Walker Elementary
Parent Newsletter for September 20-24, 2021
Dear Walker Families,
Our Wildcats have been working hard this week on MAP testing. Your child's MAP scores will be shared during our upcoming student-involved conferences which will be held on September 27th & 28th. Be looking for notes that will be sent home on Monday (September 20th) listing your child's conference information.
Book Fair is coming to the library from September 27th to October 1st! There will be LOTS of items to choose from to stock up your home libraries. Be looking for more information coming soon from Mrs. Wright.
COVID Updates: COVID notification rules are different. You will only be notified by the school if your child is determined to be a close contact. However, you can always check the Springdale Schools COVID reporting page to see the breakdown of active cases by building. Reach out if you have questions about this change.
Reminder - If your child arrives after 7:45 am, they need to be signed in to the office. You can scan the QR code on your car tag to do this; however, we ask that you still walk them to the front door. If students come up to the door by themselves and if no one is in the office, they are locked out. Thank you for helping us ensure the safety of all our Wildcats!
Breakfast is served every day from 7:15-7:45 and it's free. If your child has not tried our breakfast, remind them that they can come into the cafeteria any morning and eat breakfast before going to class.
We are looking for substitute teachers and bus drivers for the 2021-22 school year! If you are interested, please reach out to Mrs. Ryan or our district website for more information!

Why are Healthy Parent-Teacher Relationships Important
Research shows that when a partnership approach between parents and teachers is evident, children’s work habits, attitudes about school and grades improve. They demonstrate better social skills, fewer behavioral problems and a greater ability to adapt to situations and get along. And parents and teachers benefit, too. When working together as partners, it’s been found that parents and teachers communicate more effectively, develop stronger relationships with one another and develop skills to support children’s behaviors and learning.
“Building partnerships between families and schools is an effective strategy to address opportunity gaps, especially for those who have been historically underserved,” said Iheoma Iruka, co-principal investigator of ELN’s University of Nebraska-Lincoln team and chief research innovation officer and director of the Center for Early Education Research & Evaluation at HighScope Educational Research Foundation. “Strong partnerships support children’s learning and ability to develop lifelong skills and networks, while also strengthening parents’ capacity to be engaged in their child’s school experience.” To view more about this topic visit this link
