The Riverwalk Roar
October 20, 2019
Note from Dr. Compton
Pride,
We have a busy week ahead of us so I wanted to take just a minute to make sure you have all the details that you need so you and your child can have a great week at Riverwalk Academy.
To begin, Monday, October 21 is a teacher workday and a student holiday. There is no school for students on Monday.
This Friday is our inaugural Rivers' Fun and Color Run. Due on Friday is the pledge/donations envelopes from each of the students. For those who have "pledges per laps," your child will receive their envelope back on Monday so they can collect. Those collecting on the pledges need to have them turned back in by November 1st. Families can also donate online at our new and improved school store. Remember, we do have a few incentives built into our run such as a pizza party for the class who raises the most money, a gift card for the child who runs the most laps, and lunch for the student (and their friends) with Dr. Compton for the child who raises the most money overall. Each child who raises at least $100 will receive a Riverwalk Academy drawstring bag. Every child who returns at least one donation will receive a 2019 Fun Run / Color Run shirt in class Friday morning (to wear to the event).
The elementary students will be participating in a fun run, where they will be keeping track of their laps, and the middle/high school students will be participating in a color run. The times of the different events are as follows:
- Rivers' Fun Run: 2nd - 3rd Grade 8:05 am
- Rivers' Fun Run: K - 1st Grade 8:50 am
- Rivers' Fun Run: 4th - 5th Grade 9:35 am
- Rivers' Color Run: 6th - 7th Grade 10:20 am
- Rivers' Color Run: 8th - 10th Grade 11:05 am
Parents are encouraged to come participate with their child: run with their child, or come cheer them on. To do so, please try to be on time and you'll be asked to park in the church lot across the street.
Middle/High school parents, following the color run, your child will put their shirt in a plastic bag for them to bring home. Included will be instructions on how to "lock in the color" so each child's shirt can stay unique.
On Thursday, the Hornets will be bringing Hugo and his Book Bus back to Riverwalk Academy for our kindergarten to 3rd grade classes. This event is something each of these students looks forward to each year.
Tuesday is another big day for Riverwalk Academy. Our boys and girls cross country teams will be traveling to McBee, SC to participate in our school's first athletic region championships. The team will be competing in the Region 2-A Cross Country Championships.
Lions, I hope each of you has a wonderful week. If you need anything, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us.

Make-up Picture Day,
Make-up picture day is October 30. If you want your student to have a retake – please send the picture packet in with your student that day to give to the photographer. If you have already turned in the packet, please email Mrs. Carr to have your student added to the retake list. The swim team and cross country teams will also have their pictures taken on October 30. Coach Girard and both Coach Wilsons will reach out to team members regarding uniform for that day. Please email any questions to Mrs. Carr.
Picture Packets Due on Wednesday
Lions, the deadline to pay for your pictures, or to return your unused pictures, is this Wednesday, October 23rd.

Red Ribbon Week 2019: October 28 - November 1
Did You Know That Box Tops Expire?
If you still have clipped Box Tops, now is the time to turn them in! The next submission deadline is Nov. 1st, and there are a lot of tops out there that expire soon.
Please turn in all clipped Box Tops to the receptacle in the lobby by 10/25. That way, we can have them postmarked in time!
375+ Downloads and Counting
We are proud to announce that the Riverwalk Academy mobile app is live and ready for you. It is here that you can keep up with all things Riverwalk while you're on the go.
We do suggest that you allow for "push notifications" and that you enable your location settings for this app. The reason is that at times we will push a school-related notification straight to your phone. These notifications could range from a simple, "check out our latest news", to something more urgent, like an emergency notification (we will still use call/text in the event of an emergency). Additionally, let's say we are having an issue with our dismissal one day, we can push out a "location" notification which will be sent to everyone who is within a certain distance to our school.
We hope you like this app and that you find it useful. If you have any suggestions or feedback, please let us know.
