What's Buzzin' at Bryant

Week of August 7, 2023

A Message from Mrs. Johnson

Hello Bryant families,

Can you believe it? Our first day of school is right around the corner. I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer break.

We had a fantastic school year last year. The 2023-24 school year will be no different. The first day of school is August 14th and teachers are prepared to 'hit the ground running". On the first day of school only, parents/guardians will be allowed on campus to walk their children to their classroom. Once the bell rings, parents/guardians will be asked to immediately exit the campus so we can begin the school day. The first day of school can be difficult for some of our younger students. You may see tears, they may scream, they may throw themselves to the ground, and they may even hold on to you as tight as they can. We are equipt and prepared to deal with all of these circumstances. It is important for parents/guardians to reassure their children that school is a safe place and to exit the campus. It will be tough for you as a parent but you have to do it. Our team will be on "deck" to comfort your little one. I will not call a parent unless a student is completely inconsolable.

As in past years, most information related to the school year and upcoming events will be sent electronically. Please ensure the email address you have listed in Aeries is correct. If not, it will impact your ability to receive information in a timely manner. My weekly bulletins are posted on FaceBook and our school website. In the event you do not receive the weekly emails, please check one those two platforms to get any necessary information.

Let's make this the best year ever! As always, thank you for being wonderful partners. Team Bryant appreciates your support.

Have a fantastic week!

Kindergarten Pre-Assessment

On August 7th and 8th, Bryant will be conducting a pre-assessment for every student entering Kindergarten. The assessment will take approximately 30 minutes to administer. The testing will cover your child’s ability with the following skills:

Write his or her name

Alphabet Letter Recognition/Sound production

Number recognition

Rote Counting

Number writing

Recognition of shapes

Recognition of colors

This assessment is extremely valuable in identifying the readiness potential of each individual. The results of this assessment will enable us to take each child where they are developmentally in the process of learning to read and to provide an enriched, guided instructional program that challenges each child to progress at his or her own rate and ability.

Please make an appointment using Sign Up Genius. See you then!

2023-24 Class Lists

Class lists will be posted Friday, August 11th at 3:00 pm. Please be aware that no class changes will be made until approximately the 3rd or 4th week of school. If you would like to request a class change for any reason, visit the front office to submit a class change request form. Your request will be considered at the 3rd or 4th week of school mark. There is no guarantee that a class change will be granted. There are several factors that impact how classrooms are balanced. Thank you in advance for your understanding.

Frequently parents will send a friend or family member to review the class list in their absence. Please know that in the event this occurs, the front office team will not discuss any matters about a students with anyone who is not identified as the legal parent/guardian. If there are questions, the legal parent/guardian will need to visit or call the front office.

Parking in the Community

Bryant is a very small community school with NO parking lot. All staff and visitors must rely on street parking. We must be mindful of our neighbors that live in the homes adjacent to the schools perimeter. Please do not park in a manner that may block a homeowners driveway. Trash day is every Thursday and it is important for all homeowners to have their trash picked up. Please do not block anyone trash cans as this may impact their trash being picked up by waste managment for the City of Riverside. Street sweeping day is every Friday. Please be sure to read the signs regarding which side will be serviced each week.

The safety of our students and families is our first priority. DO NOT stop your car in the middle of the street and let your child get out or stop to load children into the car. Although we plead with parents/guardians not to do this, it is a practice we observe every day. This practice is very unsafe. The extra five or 10 minutes it will take drop your children off or pick them up is worth their safety and the safety of all other Bryant community members. Lastly, please do not block cross walks when parking. Doing this impacts the ability of children to safely cross the street.

Drivers will be responsible for any parking tickets or moving voiolations that are issued by RPD or parking enforcement. This is not the responsibility of the school site or the school district. Thank you in advance for considering the safety of our students.

23-24 - Data Confirmation

The data confirmation window for 2023-2024 will be July 17, 2023, through September 30, 2023. For the 2023-2024 school year, every parent/guardian of returning students MUST use the online Annual Data Confirmation process. Returning parents will not be required to print and submit hard copies of the Emergency Card. If you have questions or need support with completing the data confirmation online, please contact the main office. We will be happy to help.

Parent - Student handbook

Please take a minute to read/review the 23-24 Parent-student handbook with your child. Information in the handbook includes, but is not limited to: attendance, bully policy, birthday parties, riding bikes to school, etc. When finalizing your data confirmation you may be asked to confirm that you have received/read the handbook. Please contact the main office if you have any questions.
