Newsletter – 2nd February 2023
We are still beaming after our hugely successful Employability Ready Day last week. With the support of local employers, we were able to offer a full day of activities and workshops aimed at preparing our students for the world of work. With sessions including Applications / Careers support, Mock Interviews and National Careers Service Skills Assessment, it was a hugely valuable day for all.
For the mock interviews, students were faced with representatives from PwC, Nationwide, BAE Systems, Vodaphone, Procurri, First City and GWR to name just a few. They were scored out of five in five separate areas. Well done to Jack who scored 4 5s and one 4, Ben who interviewed so well the interviewer is giving him sponsorship for his scout trip and Tyler who has been offered a job with Vodaphone.Tyler who has been offered a job with Vodaphone. We are really proud of you all and the work the team are doing to Transform Lives Through Leaning.
In the News
We were delighted to feature in the Swindon Advertiser following our recent work with Mercedes.
Reminder: Cyber Horizons Day - 10th February – Change to School Day
On 10th February, UTC Swindon are hosting the Cyber First Day. Cyber first are an organisation that promotes cyber security and is made up of multiple companies and organisations. Whilst we understand not all students may want a career in cyber security, the modern work place needs to be more aware and better trained in this crucial aspect of the 21st century working environment.
This event is open to multiple students and schools in the Wiltshire area, so places are difficult to secure. However, we have secured enough places for all our year 10 and 11 students. Year 12 and 13 will be by application.
Arrangements for the day will be:
· All year 10 students 8.30am -11.30am only. Business dress. Notebook and pen.
· All tear 11 students 12pm -2.30pm only. Business dress. Notebook and pen.
· Year 12/13 – Optional Attendance 12pm-2.30pm – Applications to tutors by Thursday 12th January.
UTC will not be open for students outside of their timeslots

Visitors can register for their place here: https://www.utcswindon.co.uk/events/
New School Library and Careers Area
We are starting to convert an old office into a library and careers area over the next few weeks. This will be an exciting opportunity to give students a designated area to find resources and help drive a wider awareness of literacy, and provide opportunities for research into further education, apprenticeships etc.
If anybody has any books that they would like to donate, it would be much appreciated!
