A MESSAGE FROM MR. ROTHER

Mr. Rother Weekly Address 5/4

IT’S TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK!

CHS loves its teachers for their hard work and dedication to every Chandler Wolf! During a typical Teacher Appreciation Week, students would show appreciation for their teachers by writing CHS “Thank You” notes that teachers would find in their boxes with other goodies throughout the week. Students and parents, help us continue the tradition by dropping CHS Teachers an appreciation email this week!

FORMER WOLF BEAUTIFYING DOWNTOWN

Ariana Enriquez, 2012 CHS graduate (pictured) and current ASU Art History graduate student, is beautifying downtown Chandler with a 225 feet Chandler-inspired mural. When the City of Chandler put out a call for art, Ariana was one of 14 artists who applied. Ariana is so proud to have won the opportunity to have her mural adorn downtown Chandler and represent her beautiful home, and CHS is proud of her legacy. Congratulations, Ariana!

More information about Ariana and her art can be found by visiting Facebook.

A VIRTUAL PARENT-TEEN PRESENTATION

Brandon was a 21-year old man when he suffered a severe traumatic brain injury from a motor vehicle crash in 2001. He was a young, strong, healthy man with a bright future. In one split second, his life dramatically changed. He and his friends had been drinking and Brandon chose to get behind the wheel, which resulted in a life-changing event. CHOICES MATTER.

CUSD MESSAGE REGARDING REFUNDS

We understand your concerns regarding refunds and are working diligently to request a solution from the Arizona Department of Revenue. Since all field trip and AP exam fees are tax credit eligible and may have already been claimed on taxes, we are waiting on guidance from the Arizona Department of Revenue before proceeding. This is a complicated issue with many different factors to take into consideration. CUSD wants to ensure that we are in compliance State and Federal tax agencies and do not want to take any actions that may cause issues if a tax credit donation is refunded in the same taxable year as it is claimed as a credit. Once a decision has been reached, we will communicate with everyone impacted by cancelled field trips or AP exams due to the COVID-19 school closure. Thank you for your continued patience.

The Wolf Howl has gone digital! Thanks to Mrs. Rasmussen and the Wolf Howl staff for a terrific digital publication. Check out the digital Wolf Howl here!

CHS SECOND SEMESTER GRADING

Students will earn a letter grade for the second semester, which will be a combination of their 3rd quarter grades and work completed during 4th quarter. The instructional focus of the assignments is to provide preparation for the next grade level, and will be delivered virtually or through hard copy resources. The following guidelines will be utilized for high school grading:

  • Work completed during the 4th quarter can only improve 3rd quarter grades.

  • Grades in infinite Campus will not accurately reflect the final semester grade.

  • A max of 2 assignments per week will be input into a teacher’s gradebook per the due dates assigned by the teacher.

  • A student’s grade can only improve by one letter grade.

  • Students who do not engage in online learning opportunities, or who cease to actively complete 4th quarter instructional activities, will receive their grades as they were posted at the end of 3rd quarter.

  • No finals will be included in the semester grade.

  • Any student failing can be given work to bring the grade up to passing.

  • All assignments will be graded for "Satisfactory Completion" and will not receive a letter grade or percentage grade per assignment. The teacher will indicate if the assignment was "satisfactorily completed" and provide feedback to the student.

  • To achieve the letter grade increase for the course, a student must complete 75% of the 4th quarter assignments.

  • Students completing text-based packets will have their work assessed later in the semester and be awarded the grade increase if the assignments from both April and May meet the 75% satisfactory completion standard.

  • For students in elective classes without internet access, please contact your elective teacher to receive alternate assignments.
