Uranus

Uranus is the only giant planet whose equator is nearly at right angles to its orbit. A collision with an Earth-sized object may explain the unique tilt. Nearly a twin in size to Neptune, Uranus has more methane in its mainly hydrogen and helium atmosphere than Jupiter or Saturn. Methane gives Uranus its blue tint.

MORE FACTS

• Uranus (along with Neptune) is one of the smaller gas giants, but it’s still a giant! Nearly 60 Earths could cram inside Uranus.

• Not only is Uranus knocked on its side, it also spins in the opposite direction (the only other planet with such a “retrograde” rotation is Venus).

• Uranus’ year lasts 84 Earth years, but its day is just 17 hours.
