Winter Edition
Reflections and Previews
Hello Coyotes,
The Carlisle library has been busy this year. Our students have learned about the importance of becoming good digital citizens. In September and October they learned about digital citizenship, digital footprints, and how to be safe online. In October, they showed how much they learned about digital citizenship by creating fun projects in our Makerspace.
We started our Brown Bags & Books book club for grades 3-5. We read some great books and had some very good discussions. The students in book club also learned how to communicate in Google Classroom.
During Computer Science week, students participated in the Hour of Code on code.org. From Kindergarten to 5th grade we heard Angry Bird laughing as he attacked the pig, the music from Minecraft playing while Alex and Steve dodged Creepers, and the robotic sounds of BB-8 as it rolled around collecting scrap metal. Some brave students even took the Frozen challenge and worked angles and degrees to help Elsa design and skate through a snowflake...that was a tough one!
We were also excited to have engineering students from UTD come into the library and do a science presentation with chemistry and physical science demonstrations...the kids loved the liquid nitrogen experiments!
The new year promises to be filled with learning and fun as well. The book clubs will start again the first week of school. Science Fair and College Week are mid-January. The Bluebonnet reading initiative will be over at the end of January with the party honoring all our Bluebonnet readers coming up in February. Then we have our 5th annual March Reading Minutes Madness contest where I throw down the gauntlet and challenge each classroom to have the most reading minutes. The winning class in each grade level gets a movie and popcorn party.
Yes...Carlisle Library is a happening place!
Happy New Year!
