Celebrating our students and families!
From the principal
Hello Kenilworth Families,
I hope this message finds you well. Thank you for all you have done to support your student’s learning during these unprecedented times. I am sure you are looking forward to wrapping up the school year, and are probably wondering what the last week has in store. But before I go into the details, please recognize everything is subject to change, minute by minute, hour by hour. These are crazy times, and this COVID-19 experience has certainly taught us all to be flexible. Ultimately we want to provide students the opportunity to have some closure on the year. So here we go...
The last week of school is a four-day week, May 26th-29th, due to Memorial Day on the 25th. Therefore we will have two days for the 7th graders to return school supplies while picking up personal belongings and projects (May 26th and 27th), followed by another two days for the 8th graders (May 28th and 29th). The plan is to practice social distancing while wearing face masks, and to have students and their families come to KJHS within an assigned timeframe. Students will report to campus based upon their physical education class.
See: 7th and 8th Grade Distribution/Collection Timing
As long as we follow this schedule, there should be only 60 families at a time coming to campus within a two hour window. This should mean we have plenty of time to help people through an orientation type of a set up in a safe and orderly manner. It will be similar to Safeway or Friendman’s: there will be blue tape on the floor marking six-foot increments, and staff will be at the main entrance to help keep the number of people on campus to a minimum. Essentially families will be asked to follow the arrows on the map below, while returning or picking up items to close out the year.
See: Distribution/Collection Map
iPads:
Students will keep their iPad’s over the summer! They will be expected to hold onto their devices and charging cables in anticipation of potentially starting the next academic year with distance learning. If things go back to normal over the summer then students will return their devices during orientation at either Kenilworth or Casa Grande (depending on the grade level of the student). Please take care of these valuable devices. If your student will not be attending a PCS school next year, please make sure to contact our office as soon as possible.
Items to be Collected:
During the collection/distribution day we will expect to collect the following items listed below. Please bring bags/backpacks to help carry belongings.
- Library books
- Textbooks
- Track Uniforms
- Band Instruments
* Also, plan to pay off any fees owed to food services or the library.
Items to be returned to student/families:
- Team photos for Wrestling and Track (only if they have been printed in time)
- Medications stored on campus
- PE clothes
- Woodshop projects
- Art projects
- Yearbooks
8th Grade Recognition:
While the 7th and 8th graders will follow the same route around the campus we are switching things up a bit for 8th grade students as they will not be having a traditional promotion ceremony. In an attempt to bring closure and recognize students, we will be putting out the podium and promotion signage (during the collection/distribution days), this way students and their families can take some photos to share with friends and family. Students will then enter the multi-use room where they will collect promotion certificates. They will also receive some “swag” as a parting gift. Additionally, KJHS is working to put together a student recognition video that will be shared with all 8th grade families. Lastly, if the shelter-in-place restrictions should be lifted toward the end of the summer, then on August 7th there may be a modified promotion celebration/yearbook signing from 2-3:30p.m. in the large quad at KJHS. Details regarding this event will be explained at a later date, when we know more about the feasibility of this undertaking.
Kenilworth CARES:
We know there are going to be families who are uncomfortable with the planning of the last week of school. Some will think our restrictions and expectations for the drop-off/pick up of student materials is too strict. Meanwhile, others may be nervous about exposing themselves to others in a public setting and will be unhappy with these plans. All we can do under the shelter-in-place restrictions is create an opportunity for students and families to experience some closure while collecting and returning educational belongings. The way we have things set up, families will be able to practice social distancing more so than many essential businesses. As always, we thank you for your partnership with Kenilworth and your support. We look forward to seeing you during your assigned time slot. Until then, I encourage students to try hard during this final push toward the end of the semester. Finish strong and be proud of what you have accomplished.
Take care,
Bennett Holley

Hola Kenilworth Families,
Bennett Holley
