Monday Memo #24
"Happy Birthday" HBMS!
Dear T.E.A.M. :
How do you celebrate birthdays?
In parts of my extended family, I've come to appreciate not only actual birthdays but also birthday weeks and birthday months. As a kid, having a late August birthday was something I rarely fully looked forward to, because less than three weeks later, summer was over and we were back in school. (Kind of an ironic twist that now I gulp at the thought of another birthday and look forward to the start of school!)
My mother-in-law and I share a birthday week. And over the last two decades, we've started to celebrate our birthday month. This has made a birthday feel like a National Holiday. And it's reminded us of the importance of making time to celebrate each and every day. For our entire family, celebrating together has made it even more rewarding.
The return from the February Recess holds a special place in HBMS history, because February 2008 was when we first opened our doors to our 5th and 6th graders. If you were here back then, take a few minutes this week to reminisce and share a story of your favorite memory with a group of students or a colleague.
This was the start to a new chapter in Hampton Bays. It was a privilege to be part of that chapter and it's equally as exciting to envision what lies ahead. So let's celebrate...together...the day we return from the February Recess and each day that follows.
I hope this Monday Memo finds you having enjoyed a restful February Recess. Thanks for you dedication to our students and our middle school program. Let's work together to make this week great for our students!
