ACT Girl Guide Archives
Have you an interest in old things?
We are looking for adults who have appropriate skills or experience or qualifications OR a willingness to just have a go and learn about:
paper & photographic archives,
audio/visual archives,
Guide uniforms across the ages,
Guide badges and collectables,
and all the bits of paraphernalia that goes along with being part of Guides in the ACT & SE NSW Region.
We'd like the archives to be able to be enjoyed by our youth members, as well as the wider community because we are part of the heritage of the ACT and our surrounding areas.
Girls who are working on Guiding traditions in their badgework should be able to find local information, and not just rely on the (often incomplete or incorrect) information on the internet.
New (and experienced) leaders may enjoy accessing old style program materials to enhance their current programs.
The volunteers we are seeking might be interested or skilled in:
uniforms and materials,
cataloguing,
data entry,
transferring videos/cassettes/records to computer files,
helping put on displays,
detective work - what came from who/where/when,
cleaning and sorting (and finding out what "sparks joy", and what has to be thanked and thrown out - Marie Kondo style).
The team will accept volunteers who can give a couple of hours regularly or one off, some work may be able to be done at home, the rest will be done at South Canberra Hall and at Yarralumla. So, please consider if you have an interest - and email or phone if you can't get to the meeting and we'll add you to our email list.
We'll keep you advised about when we will start accepting more contributions of Guiding related paperwork/books/uniforms/badges that exist in many homes and Guide halls.
