A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
TAKING TIME TO STOP
YEAR 7,8,9 RETREATS
Our Retreat programs provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to stop and have a sole focus on connecting with their faith and being involved in activities which bring faith to action. The Retreat program planned for our Year 7 to 10 students in the final weeks of the term presents an exciting prospect. It is wonderful that we have so many committed staff who will be involved in facilitating these reflective and faith formation experiences for our students.
Each year group will focus on a different theme:
Year 7 Retreat - Created in God’s Image and Likeness (Wednesday 11 December)
Year 8 Retreat - Stewardship of Creation (Monday 9 and Tuesday 10 December)
Year 9 Retreat – Thriving through Change and Challenge (Wednesday 11 December)
Year 10 Retreat – Social Justice and Service to Others (Thursday 5 and Friday 6 December)
Along with our Retreat Leaders and Coordinators – Paul Lenaghan, Zane Lao, Kate Raphael, Margarita Tranquille, Suzan Crompton, Stephen Hunter, Linda Lombardi – we will welcome Paul Salmon from Springfox who will facilitate experiences in the Year 9 and 10 programs. Having spent almost three decades designing and leading programs on school camps, retreats and leadership development pathways, Paul has seen first-hand the positive impact that can emerge from eye-opening encounters and the noticeable difference in outcomes for those who continuously self-reflect and adjust for growth.
Thank you to Ms Karen Rice and Mrs Dawn Toomey for their support in bringing this special time to life for our students.

RELAY FOR LIFE
Student participants shine on a fine weekend at Joondalup Arena
Relay for Life is a Cancer Council event that raises funds to fight cancer and also raise awareness of support services to help people with various cancers. In 2019, Prendiville had about 55 students participate in this event. Their efforts resulted in the receiving the award for the highest fundraising school team at the event, with a total of $5500.
Students all enjoyed the experience, made some new friends and learnt a lot along the way. Thanks to all the team for their efforts.

YEAR 7 PRENDIVILLE TIME
During Prendiville Time all of the Year 7 students gathered in the gym to begin the 'student voice' – Code of Conduct activities. They were required to work with their Home Room groups through all of the activities. They were lucky enough to have a number of Year 10 students who had gone through the process before to help them out.
Well done to all the students involved with this activity and to the impeccable behaviour of everyone.

YEAR 7 SCIENCE CLUB ANNUAL NIGHT BUSHWALK
The annual night Bush Walk at Neerabup National Park on Wanneroo Road for the Year 7 Science Club members, held on the 4th November, was another fantastic and successful event for the club. The balmy warm night allowed the group to enjoy the sounds and sights of the Australian bush along the 10th Light Horse Trail. Students learnt about the various communities with its number of different species of gum trees, ancient zamia palms, grass trees plus many introduced species. Students also learnt about the animals that live in the area such as the western grey kangaroo, brushtail possums and also the ticks. Students also had the opportunity to view the moon, thanks to Mr Ford, and learn about the significance of the area to the Aboriginal people.
The night is also infamous for sighting of the legendary resident bushman, this time we even got to go into his campsite.
A special thanks to all the Science staff who came along and supported the night whether it be driving the bus, doing commentary or just helping supervise. Staff members assisting included Mr Ford, Dr Van Der Kwast, Mrs Relo-Fisher, Mrs Owen, Mrs Jovanoski, Mr Devlin and Mr A Giannasi.

Sports Achievement - Michael McDonald
Michael competed in the All Schools Athletics competition at HBF stadium. He won medals in both of his classified events for U16 para Discus and Shotput. Michael has now been selected to compete in the All Schools National Athletics competition in December this year. This is a fantastic achievement by Michael and we wish him all the best in the national competition.
As the end of the school year approaches we start to get more time to read for pleasure. Now is the time to relax by the pool, lay in bed and escape with a book. All fiction titles are available for loan over the Christmas holiday period – due for return first week back at school 2020.
Remember for those who are traveling or who simply enjoy reading eBooks, all students can download books to read on their devices via Wheelers. Simply go the home page of SEQTA and click on the Prendiville Dashboard icon – select Wheelers – use your normal school login, select a title and enjoy!
