Mill Creek Student/Family Directory!
FROM MR. ORTMAN and MR. MURTHA
Dear Mill Creek Families,
School attendance can sometimes be a confusing topic, so we wanted to take an opportunity to provide some clarity. Below are a few important pieces of school attendance information:
- The Commomwealth of PA requires that schools have legitimate reasons communicated from families for student absences (e.g. sickness). If a legitimate reason for a student absence is not communicated to school, then the school is required to mark the absence as "unexcused." Once a student reaches 3 "unexcused" absences, the school is required to hold a meeting with the family to discuss a Student Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP).
- If student absences exceed 10% of the total school year at any point during the school year, regardless of reason, the school may need to discuss a SAIP with the family.
- Excuse notes from a medical professional do not count towards the 10% referenced above, so it is always helpful when a family can obtain and provide a doctor's note for absences.
- The District allows for up to 5 vacation days to be marked as "excused" during the school year. There is a vacation form that needs to be completed for this to be approved.
Below is a District-level attendance message and some links to further attendance information.
Important Attendance Information
Central Bucks School District attendance policies conform to the Pennsylvania School Code sections 1326 to 1333 dealing with compulsory school attendance. “Every child of compulsory school age having a legal residence in this Commonwealth… is required to attend a day school in which the subjects and activities prescribed by the standards of the State Board of Education are taught.”
