Staff Spotlight
This week’s spotlight is on one of our 3rd grade teachers at PSA, Mrs. Duchene. Mrs. Duchene has a passion for teaching, as well as learning. Here is what she would like to share with you about herself: “My name is D'Ann Duchene, I was born and raised in El Paso Texas. I graduated from the University of Texas El Paso in May of 2015, and I am currently enrolled in a Masters Degree program at Capella University. I recently moved into the area with my husband and daughter. I am so happy to serve the amazing students here at Prestwick. My philosophy is that teachers need to be willing to improve and learn along with their students. One of the most valuable tools you can help someone attain is an education. I strongly believe in shaping the future by providing all students with a quality education. To me there is no job more rewarding than that of a teacher. I wake up everyday and look forward to going to work and seeing the look on a child's face when he/she learns something new.”

NJHS Membership
Students were given applications to join the Prestwick Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society on Friday, January 10th. They were selected based on their academic performance and behavior.
Membership in NJHS is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a student. Our chapter strives to give practical meaning to the society’s standards of scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character.
Completed applications are due by January 31st. If your child needs help with the application process or has questions, please come and ask us! We are excited to welcome these new members into our society!

Counselor's Corner: Great Kindness Challenge
In Guidance for K through 5 this week, the students learned about Kindness, and talked through kindness vs. unkind actions with books and videos. We related a lot of kind acts to being service-minded and talked in partners/groups to our classmates.
In MS Thursday Thoughts lunches, the students were shown a sentence starter poster, and many of the students wrote Kind heart notes to friends, family or teachers. Many of the students really enjoyed participating in the events.
The students took pictures with the KIND banners, and were encouraged to be the I in Kind. Next week, the students will be getting a purple Kind Acts list in their classes and are encouraged to do/check off as many kind acts as possible. We are participating in the Kindness Challenge with over 10 million students in other countries and the US! Let's go out and spread kindness from Prestwick to our world!

Mrs. Sandy Burrell

Dual Language Parent Meetings
We're trying to expand our reach and we think you can help by word-of-mouth. You may have a neighbor or friend who has an incoming Little Elm ISD kindergartner. We want them to know about our upcoming Dual Language parent meetings.
Dual Language is a Spanish and English two-way bilingual program that begins in kindergarten. Interested parents who have incoming kindergartners for the 2020-2021 school year should plan to attend one of two parent meetings: the first meeting is Wednesday, February 26, at Brent Elementary at 6:30 p.m.
The second meeting is Wednesday, March 25 at Oak Point Elementary at 6:30 pm! For more information about the District's Dual Language Program, visit our website at www.littleelmisd.net/duallanguage
