The monthly Board of Education meeting is Monday, May 20th at 7:00 PM at the MEC. Below are a couple of topics that may be of interest. If you can’t make the meeting, you can view it live or later, either on the District website or on Channel 6. Highlights of the meeting will be emailed and posted online within a day or two.

DON'T MISS THESE EVENTS:
Bike to Highcrest: Fourth Graders - grab your bikes and helmets and sign up for Bike to Highcrest on Monday, May 20. Meet on the blacktop to check in with your signed registration and waiver after dismissal. Teams of students and parent volunteers will leave around 3:25-3:30 to bike to Highcrest, meet with HMS admins and bike back to McKenzie by approximately 4:25-4:35 for parent pick up. We need PARENT VOLUNTEERS too! Register and sign up to volunteer here.
PTA Volunteer Brunch: Volunteer thank you brunch this Thursday, May 23rd from 9-11 at the Coffey Home (731 Park Ave). Have you volunteered as an Exec Board member, chair, or volunteered in PTA activities this past year? If so, please come share some coffee and brunch treats with McKenzie friends. Thanks to Michele Coffey for hosting!
Race for Recess: Help fund recess equipment for our sister school Carman-Buckner! New date for Race for Recess is Thursday, May 30th. Presented by the Power Up to Play Committee, Race for Recess will be a run/walk for the entire family and McKenzie staff. All proceeds will go toward gym equipment for Carman Buckner Elementary School. For more information click here.

No Fall Frenzy this October with No Chairs: Do you want your kids to have Fall Frenzy? We need co-chairs! PTA events only happen with parent volunteers and Fall Frenzy will not occur this October without interested parents to chair it. Fall Frenzy is a McKenzie favorite…please consider volunteering to chair!
PTA Executive Board: The PTA needs you! Are you interested in volunteering for the PTA Executive Board for 2019-2020? The Nominating Committee is looking for a dedicated parent to volunteer for President Elect.

AtoZ Directory: Are you a McKenzie parents who has a local business? If so, you might want to consider advertising in the AtoZ Directory next year. Please contact Janelle Quick if you’re interested in learning more.
Field Day: Field Day will take place Friday, May 31st. Rain date: Monday, June 3rd) and we need lots of volunteers to make this day run smoothly. Please sign up here.
OTHER HAPPENINGS:
Flex Seating: The PTA is excited to announce that the Exec Board voted to approve a $50,000 use of funds for Phase 2 of the Flexible Classroom project. Information regarding the projected costs is here. This vote will be put to the General Membership at Tuesday’s 10 am General PTA meeting. Thanks to all McKenzie parents for your year-long dedication to fundraising and this project. McKenzie is the district leader in Flexible Classrooms, and we all should be very excited and proud!
School Kits: Ordering deadline has been extended by one week and now ends on Friday May 24th. Don’t miss out! Pre-order your child's kit and the supplies will be waiting for him/her on the first day of school! A portion of the sales from each school kit will be donated to the McKenzie PTA. Order here. 4th Grade Farewell: Attention 4th Grade Families! Pictures needed for 4th grade farewell slideshow! Please submit at least 3 pictures of your child at McKenzie with friends or alone (ideas include first/last day of school, class parties, field day, field trips, Fall Frenzy, pictures on the blacktop/playground/front of school/classroom...). If you do not have any pictures taken at school, please send pictures taken elsewhere. Submit pictures to aimeehartigan@yahoo.com by May 29th
PTA Budget: Attention General PTA Membership! The McKenzie 2019-2020 budget is now posted on the McKenzie PTA website. Please review and contact Julieta LaMalfa (Julieta.LaMalfa@gmail.com) with any questions.
The budget will be voted on and finalized at the May 21, 2018 General Board Meeting.
Destination Imagination: Are you curious about DI? Come to an informational presentation to find out what Destination Imagination (DI) is all about! DI is a team-based creative problem solving competition for ids grades K-12. There are several identical, 1hour presentations to choose from. RSVP here.

HMS Room parents: Have a 4th graders moving to Highcrest in the fall? Here’s your chance to sign up to be a room parent! By signing up now, you’ll get first dibs to be the room parent for your child’s class. Being a room parent at Highcrest is a great way to get to know other parents and students from other D39 schools and the time commitment is much less than being a room parent in elementary school. Wilmette Fire Department will have a fire engine dedication ceremony at Fire Station #26, 1304 Lake Avenue on Saturday, May 18th from 10:00 - 12:00 noon. Join this family fun event with raffles and giveaways.
Winnetka Youth Organization hosts Junior Game Night for 7th - 12th graders on Friday, May 24th 6:00-9:00 pm.
Wilmette Baseball Association has opened Summer League Registration for students in Kindergarten - 3 grades.
Wilmette Historical Museum hosts Summer Scavenger Hunt June 17 - August 4th.
Trevian Juniors is a softball program for girls ages 6-10. Go to the website for tryout information.
Oakton Community College hosts summer STEAM camps and classes for students ages 8-12. Registration is now open.
Love to sing? Youth Choral Theatre of Chicago offers a free vocal training class with flyer. Vocal classes available for children ages 4-18.
The Center Fitness Club schedule and various park district classes for children are posted.
Wilmette Food Pantry is open every Tuesday 10:30-11:30 am at Trinity United Methodist Church.
