Job Opportunity for 11th and 12th Graders.
The Lomakatsi Restoration Project (a non-profit based in Ashland) has a great summer jobs program where high school juniors and seniors get paid to do hands-on ecological restoration work in and around the Ashland Watershed. A big part of the program is interacting with professionals from the US Forest Service, Lomakatsi, and other organizations to learn about different career paths in natural resources.
Students love the program — 100% of those in the last session said they would recommend it to others. Some have said it is life-changing. And it looks great on a job or college application.
This year’s Ashland Watershed Youth Ecological Training & Employment Program runs June 20 to July 14, Mon-Thurs, 8 hours per day, and pays $16/hr. The program is based in Ashland, and there will also be a shuttle van pickup location in Medford. S
Students can apply at: https://lomakatsi.org/applyashland/. Applications are due May 16.
Middle School Attendance Zones Changin
The Medford School District (MSD) is opening a third middle school in the fall of 2023, Oakdale Middle School! At that time, all sixth graders will move to middle schools, offering exciting opportunities for students, and freeing up several classrooms at each of our elementary schools. This means we will need new middle school attendance zones to determine where students will attend middle school, starting in August 2023.
The Attendance Zoning Committee, which is made up of parents, guardians, community members, and staff, has been working hard creating middle school boundary scenarios. Now they need your feedback! You can view the scenarios online here or in person at one of our Gallery Walks. These are not final in any way. After viewing the scenarios, you can share your thoughts using this feedback form. Feedback will be analyzed by the committee, which will make a recommendation to the Medford School Board on May 5. The Board plans to adopt attendance boundaries at the May 19 Board Meeting. Both meetings will provide the public an opportunity to comment before the Board.

We appreciate your feedback and engagement in this important process!
