A Message from Principal Stephens
Dear Pride Families,
Welcome back from fall break! We hope that you had time to spend with family, friends and loved ones and also had some time to relax and be rejuvenated for a great second quarter.
We are proud to share that our community service events continue as our 6th grade students will be attending a field trip to Feed My Starving Children in Phoenix next month. This is the fifth time our students will have this opportunity as we continue to focus on teaching the whole child. Thank you, 6th grade teachers, for coordinating this unique experience.
As we look forward to a positive second quarter, on behalf of all of as Patterson elementary, we thank you for your support in making Patterson a great place for our students to learn, grow and succeed. We are continuing to ask for support through tax credit donations in order to keep field trip and club fees as minimal as possible.
Tax credit donations can be made anytime and can be credited to your child's extra curricular activity fees. The tax credit reduces your tax burden to the state of Arizona, dollar for dollar. It also reduces your taxable income to the federal government.
Our school uses tax credit donations for enrichment opportunities such as fieldtrips, assemblies, art masterpiece, clubs and many other activities.
To donate, visit the tax credit donation page on our CUSD website: Click Here or contact Shelley Krason, office manager at Patterson Elementary for more information and/or to donate at the school by cash or check. 480-224-3607; krason.shelley@cusd80.com
Thank you so much for your support of Patterson Elementary Students.

FALL HOLIDAY REMINDER
Chandler Unified School District and Patterson Elementary have a tradition of celebrating the fall season rather than the observance of Halloween.
For this reason, student do not wear costumes to school on Halloween, but all students are welcome to participate on other dress up days during our Patterson Spirit Weeks.
Special Thanks to our Patterson Community
The Library Corner with Ms. Hufford
What an incredible school community we have here at Patterson. You may not be aware of this, but YOU are a friend of the library. Our fall book fair set the record for most books sold and our first quarter Birthday Book Club had 94 participants! It was so fun to help students choose their birthday books and see pride in their eyes when they turn them back in to share with others.
Each of these events are fundraisers for the library and have allowed us to purchase many new books and series for our students to enjoy. Not all schools have such a supportive community, so I graciously thank you for being a friend of the library. If you would like to recommend new books or series to our library, visit my webpage and click "Recommend a Book for the Library Collection."
Reading matters. If a student reads 20 minutes per day, he/she will be exposed to 1,800,000 words per year and is more likely to score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests vs. reading 5 minutes per day, exposure to 282,000 words per year, and 50th percentile on standardized tests.
