New Prospect Elementary School Newsletter
August 6, 2020
Hello Panther Parents,
I can’t believe we are almost a week away from school starting! We have had a very productive week of planning with teachers & staff to get ready and make Universal Remote Learning the absolute best it can be! We know we can do it!
This, like all my messages lately, houses a lot of information. Please read this message carefully.
Pre-Kindergarten-2nd Grade
- ALL students at New Prospect have the option of live, online instruction during Universal Remote Learning.
- If your child is in PK-2nd grade and they don’t have a device to use for live instruction then they can be issued a paper learning packet in replacement of live learning. Or if you do not want them working on a device because of their age or another circumstance, then they can use a paper learning packet.
- These packets are written by the district, not New Prospect teachers.
- You could also have your child participate in their morning meeting live, but then work in the packet for academics.
- 2nd graders will be receiving devices after Labor Day. We are working on getting PK, K & 1st graders devices, but we can’t say confidently that they will get them yet.
Next Week’s Events
As you can see from the timeline above, next week will be busy! Monday is when your child’s teacher will be sending you an email, introducing themselves and asking you to fill out a survey (with a quick turnaround) to get us prepared for the student materials pick up days.
Thursday and Friday of next week are student materials pick-up days. This is also a chance for your child to wave to his or her teacher. It is NOT a requirement that you come during the time of your child’s grade level, however. You can pick anytime, if you let their teacher know (in the survey). This will give flexibility if you want to just come once in case you have multiple children, or if you would rather wave to Mrs. McGowan (our amazing ESOL teacher) or Mrs. Davis our STEM Teacher and not your child’s homeroom teacher.
The below picture is the schedule for pick-up days.
On Friday, all teachers will be sending you a welcome video where they will introduce themselves and their learning space. They will also be inviting you to a live meeting on Microsoft Teams where they will meet your children and answer any questions you may have.
Principal’s Town Hall Meeting
I am going to host a virtual “town-hall” type meeting on Wednesday, August 12th at 6 pm. I will answer any questions that are submitted here, by Tuesday at midnight. I will send the link to the meeting that day.
Hope this communication clears some things up and gets you excited about what is to come! Although this is not ideal and I would LOVE to see all your kids in person on the 17th, we are going to do our best to make this great!
Thank you for your continued support!
