The McKelvey Messenger

News from our Schools - July 2020

Greetings from the Front Office

Mrs. Lackey, McKelvey Elementary (K-5) Principal

Hello Dragons! I hope you all are doing well and continue to spend quality time with loved ones. I have enjoyed the variety of getting settled at McKelvey while often working remotely from home. Our family time has been filled with exploring area state parks and social distancing at various baseball tournaments where we love to watch our youngest son play. Like all of you, the restarting of school is heavy on our minds, but we find comfort in knowing that we are in this together as a community. Regardless of time, space, and numbers, we are eager and excited to reconnect and return to learning and growing together! Please feel free to contact me via email at if there's anything you need.

Dr. Goodwin, McKelvey Elementary (Gr. 1-5) Assistant Principal

This summer has been an interesting turning point in so many ways. Personally, I have been working on creative ways to keep my 3 year old son mentally stimulated through play, discovery and wonder while simultaneously preparing him for his first formal school experience in August. We have turned to gardening, nature walks and baking as ways to keep us going! Professionally, I have enjoyed getting to learn about McKelvey through the eyes of teachers, staff and leaders and greatly anticipate the opportunity to connect with each of you and your children to deepen my understanding of the rich culture, traditions and pride of the McKelvey community. I am thoroughly excited to serve McKelvey and am committed to our partnership to ensure student success!

Mr. Moore, McKelvey Primary Center (KDG) Assistant Principal

Hello McKelvey families! My name is Danny Moore and I will be the Assistant Principal of the brand new McKelvey Primary Center. I hope everyone is having a great summer. My wife Jamie and I have been busy watching my son Collin play baseball every weekend. If I am not at a baseball field, I have been playing golf with my other son Brennan. I have enjoyed meeting many of you over the past 2 years at McKelvey and look forward to growing strong partnerships to ensure that all of our students receive an exceptional education. I cannot wait to meet all of our incoming Kindergarteners!

Parkway Superheroes

Check out these masked men! Our custodial crew is hard at work with summer cleaning. Mr. Tony from Bus 162 is even pitching in! Here he is with Mr. Pearley after waxing the cafeteria floor. Four coats, my friends...with more to come next week! Special thanks to these excellent workers, along with Mr. Moo and Mr. Ron (not pictured...yet). Kids, you can be superheroes at home, too. Ask your family what you can do to help!

Exciting Progress at Our Primary Center

Kindergarten Screening

Screenings are still tentatively planned for August 4th and 5th, even if they move to a virtual platform. We will be in touch directly with Kindergarten families as soon as we know more. Thank you for your patience. In the meantime, please complete the Kindergarten Parent Questionnaire if you haven't yet had a chance.

Chromebook Collection

To prepare for the start of school, the district is continuing its Chromebook collection process. Please return student devices to any Parkway high school. You can drop devices between 10 am and 2 pm on any Monday or Wednesday through the month of July. They have also added a special Saturday drop-off tomorrow July 18 from 10 am to 2 pm. This is a curbside drop-off and check-in process. Thank you!
