Thinglink: Touch this Image
This tool has nothing to do with The Legend of Zelda, but the main character is called Link, and I am a fan, so this image just made sense. I think this will be a great tool not only for engaging students, but also to create digital, interactive resources from paper sources; sketchnotes in particular.
Thinglink as a Virtual Field Trip
A Trip Through the Lascaux Caves in France
Thinglink as a Text Set
This example is for a CSI style investigation into Otzi the Iceman. Students analyze the resources, develop a theory, and create a Thinglink of their own with "touches" that link to evidence to support their theory.
**Thinglink for Professional Development**
Thinglink is also a great tool for "Choose Your Own Adventure" style PD. This Thinglink is all about Thinglink because I made it for this Tech Rally. Click on this button and go full screen for teacher resources related to this tool.
Thinglink for Professional Learning
With links to resources related to the goals and the ability to add evidence of completion. This would be a great idea to use with students as well.
A Recap of Our Last Workshop
Today's group was small, just five of us, but I am happy to say that everyone left with something useful. A brief summary of what was discussed:
- Pocket is an easy way to organize and tag resources that you find online. Set up an account online by going to www.getpocket.com
- Pinterest doesn't have the capability of adding tags for quick retrieval, but it is unique in it's ability to create collaborative boards for sharing resources with a team.
- Other tools mentioned: diigo, feedly and dropbox
- Shared writing using Google Docs, using Google Docs for annotating short text (saving paper and the copy machine)
- Setting up Google classroom & where to find and add Google apps for education. Learn more about all things google from Alice Keeler "Ten Things to Start with in Google Classroom" She has a book "50 Things You Can Do With Google Classroom" which you can borrow for free if you are an Amazon Prime member.
- Creating a class website using www.weebly.com
- Google stuff in general has come up at both workshops. I'm planning to attend some sessions at the CUE conference in late October on Googly stuff. I'll add resources sometime in November. Is there anyone interested in becoming a Google certified teacher? That would be one way to learn more about it. We can talk more about it next time.
Event Information
Tech Workshop
This is more of a choose your own adventure style of PD. If you have other tools that you would like to talk about, learn about or set up, please don't be discouraged from coming. We talk about a wide variety of tech tools over our laptops every other Monday. It's about having the space & time to collaborate with others who are exploring the integration of technology in their classrooms.
