I want to thank the students that have been doing a great job keeping their cell phones away and off in their bookbags during the day. As a reminder, the expectation is that students do not have their cell phones on during the school day. They should not be used unless a teacher has asked them to take them out for an activity.

We are working towards allowing students to use their technology during lunch, but we are not there yet. I have been speaking with students about the responsibility and respect that needs to be shown in order for this to happen.

We have had some incidents recently of recording and posting. This behavior is punishable per our code of conduct and the students involved received consequences. Please speak to your students about the importance of not recording without permission, and definitely not posting videos in texts or on social media.

Friday was our first day of student cashing in their ROCKStar tickets for prizes. Students have been earning ROCKStar tickets for showing Respect, Ownership, Courage, Kindness, and Safety. These are the 5 pillars of our behavioral expectations at Scott.

Mrs. Murray, our guidance counselor and head of the PBIS team at Scott, helped the students choose their prizes. Prizes ranged from 1 to 40 tickets. Students had choices of pencil top erasers, folders, pens, pencils, fidgets, notebooks, calendars, "Pop Its", and snacks.

Drama Club will be having their next meeting after school on Friday, September 23rd in our auditorium to plan for the upcoming performance of "The Lion King."

Actors, singers, artists, and technical crew are needed. Please read the flyer below for more information from our director, Mr. Alex DiGuiseppe.

Please mark your calendars. Our first early dismissal will be on Wednesday, September 21st. Dismissal starts at 11:30 instead of 2:10.

Most of our students seem to be acclimated to the early start time of Middle School. Please remember that students may begin to enter the building at 7:00 am. If they arrive that early, they may sit in the auditorium until 7:15 when they are dismissed to grab a breakfast if they would like and then head to homeroom. Classes begin at 7:25. If students arrive after that, they are marked late.

I appreciate your support in getting students to school on time.

Just a couple reminders to families:

1. Students should not be contacting families to be picked up when they are not feeling well. Students need to be assessed by the nurse and calls home will be made as needed. If families want to be called each time their student comes to the nurse, please email Ann Keenan, school nurse (keenana@casdschools.org). It is not standard practice to call home for non-urgent matters.
2. Emergency Health Forms were sent home last week (lime green). If you did not complete the Emergency Health Information online, you must complete the paperwork and return it to the school nurse.
3. Covid 19 is still causing illness and absences. Please continue to test and take precautions to avoid further spread. 5 days of isolation followed by 5 days of well-fitting masks is the current CDC guideline. (see below).
4. The school nurse will be starting health screenings (Vision, Growth and Scoliosis). If your student has glasses, please make sure they have them for school.

Our 21st Century Program is a free afterschool program that occurs Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 5:30 pm. It is a free program that focuses on engaging students in hands-on learning, homework assistance, one-to-one tutoring, STEAM enrichment activities, and daily academic support in English language development, Math, Reading, and Social emotional learning. Scott 6th Grade Center receives Title I funding to help students meet state standards. During the school year there will be several Parent Engagement activities for you and your child to attend if you are able. Please review the attached documents which outline the teacher and school responsibilities, parent/guardian responsibilities and student responsibilities.
