Dear Families

Family Breakfast

What a fantastic morning it was for the Family Breakfast, a true celebration of families here at St Emilie's. Thank you so much to all who attended and especially to the staff and P & F members who helped make the event such a success.

Congratulations to Rafael in Year 6 and his family who won the VIP experience at the House Athletics Carnival and to our 5 treasure hunt raffle winners.

Year 1 Assembly

Congratulations to our Year One students and staff on their wonderful Assembly this morning. The Oscars theme as a celebration of Dads was inspiring and a great way to get across the special fathers in our lives.

House Field Events Day - Yr 4 to 6

The House Field Day is being held next Friday 9th September - the program can be found below. Families are very welcome to come along and we are hopeful for good weather!

House Athletics Carnival

Please see below for the program for the day House Athletics Carnival coming up on Friday 16th September. Our Kindy to Year 2 students will have their carnival in the morning and our Year 3 to 6 students will have their carnival from after recess to the end of the day. Again, we are hoping for good weather for the day.

Year 1 in 2023 Uniform

We encourage our PP families to begin the process of getting ready for our school uniform in 2023. The contact details and opening times for Image Embroidery are at the bottom of the Weekly Reminders.

Dance Troupe and Choir

We received notification this week that our choir have received an Excellence award for performing arts and Dance Troupe a Merit award. With such a disruptive start to the year this is great achievement. Please see below a thank you letter from a parent about Dance Troupe to Mrs Green and Miss Fallo.

Heartfelt thanks and gratitude for all your hard work, tireless effort, dedication and generously sharing your talent to choreograph an amazing dance, to prepare the dancers, giving up so much of your personal time- all of which culminated in this impressive performance!

It was electrifying to be in the audience, to watch our young and extremely talented St.Emilie's dance troupe perform like professionals! The theme was brilliant and executed beautifully. I feel certain all parents were proud to see their children perform, and glad to see them build their confidence through this experience.

They've enjoyed the practices and had fun all the way to the actual evening. I want to sincerely thank you both for giving my child this wonderful opportunity; and also thank the school leadership for encouraging the art of dance and being involved in the Catholic Performing Arts Festival.

Cake Stall

The P & F will be seeking donations for the cake stall which will be held on the day of the House Athletics Carnival. Donations can be dropped off at the Office on Thursday 15th September. You will receive more information regarding donations next week.

School Tours

We are offering School Tours to prospective families who wish to enrol their children at St Emilie's on Thursday 15th September. If you know any families who would be interested in this, please see below for more information and share the QR code for those families to book via Eventbrite.

Positive COVID Cases

If your child tests positive to COVID, please ensure that you enter the result on the CEWA portal and also on the Health Department.

Parenting Article

This week under the Parent Reading heading, we have included an Insights article titled, 'Why dads matter' by Shona Hendley. Her article tells us that every dad will be different and that is okay. Whatʼs important is that dads are there for their kids and want to grow with them. Thatʼs what life is, growth.

Weeks 6-10 = Goodness

Week 8: Goodness is Helping Others

Week 9: Goodness is Acting with Integrity

Week 10: Goodness is Being Honest and Truthful

Big picture

1. Helping others feels good

There is some evidence to suggest that when you help others, it can promote physiological changes in the brain linked with happiness. Helping others can also improve our support networks and encourage us to be more active. This, in turn, can improve our self-esteem.

2. It creates a sense of belonging and reduces isolation

Volunteering and helping others can also help us feel a sense of belonging, make new friends and connect with our community. Face-to-face activities such as volunteering at a food bank can help reduce loneliness and isolation.

3. It helps keep things in perspective

Many people don’t realise the impact that a different perspective can have on their outlook on life. Helping others, especially those less fortunate than yourself, can help put things into perspective and make you feel more positive. There is some evidence that being aware of your own acts of kindness and the things you are grateful for can increase feelings of happiness, optimism, and satisfaction. Doing good may help you have a more positive outlook on your circumstances.

4. It helps make the world happier – it’s contagious!

Acts of kindness have the potential to make the world a happier place. An act of kindness can improve feelings of confidence, being in control, happiness and optimism. It may also encourage others to repeat the good deed that they’ve experienced themselves – contributing to a more positive community.

5. The more you do for others, the more you do for yourself

The benefits of helping others can last long after the act itself, both for you and them.

Leaving early

1. While we understand it is difficult to make specialist appointments outside of school hours, we strongly encourage you to do so where possible.

2. Please ensure you are emailing the class teacher along with admin, if your child is going to be taken out of school for an appointment early.

When an individual receives a COVID-19 positive result, the individual is deemed by WA Health unlikely to suffer from re-infection for a period of 4 weeks. Therefore, further Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) testing when subsequently unwell is not required during this time, as a COVID-19 positive result may be returned throughout this period while the initial virus is being shed.

However, where a person is unwell within their 4-week period and are showing symptoms of COVID-19, WA Health reiterate that the impacted person should remain home until symptoms subside, particularly where symptoms are respiratory in nature (e.g. productive cough).

All unwell COVID-19 symptomatic students should remain home and refrain from coming to school.
