Spooktacular Halloween Walk
On Friday, October 30 from 9:00am-11:00am Chatfield will host a unique twist on the traditional festivities for 2020: our Spooktacular Halloween Walk! The walk will take students on a socially distanced costume parade through a series of Halloween scenes/vignettes concluding with the delivery of a sweet Halloween candy bag!
We need your help! We need parents/families to decorate a Halloween scene/vignette will be assigned a socially distanced outdoor space along a walking path. Students will walk past the scene/vignette and enjoy what you have set up! The decorations can be as creative or as simple as you like and should be appropriate for all ages. As students pass the scene/vignette we will not be passing out candy or any items. The Halloween candy bag will be waiting at the end of the walk!
Friday, October 30 is a half day of school, so the walk will be early in the day. Decorators should plan to set up between 9am and 9:30am with the first classes coming through around 9:30am! This activity is weather dependent and if cancellation is necessary because of weather we will notify families by 8:30am.
Again, we need you! If you would like to decorate a scene/vignette, please sign up by Friday, October 23. All participants are expected to maintain social distancing and wear a mask. You will be assigned a spot along the walking path, not near your car. Electricity is not available.
Additionally, from each child by Friday, October 23 we need a bag of wrapped candy with about 50 pieces. We need this in advance so Miss Jodi and the PIE volunteers can get everything organized! A drop off tub for candy will be located where the students come in each morning. Thank you!

Bee Club has Started Up by Invitation
Mrs. Wilcox is ready for Bee Club! Bee Club is open to students in grades 3-8 on a limited basis as we employ COVID-19 mitigation strategies. The club will be meeting on Wednesdays after school. We will base attendance on who responds first to this form and if there will be a bee suit that will fit the student. We will email you back with more detailed information regarding location and times if your student will be able to attend. You must sign up using the google form below if you would like to be considered for attendance. FORM LINK
Bike Club - A Fall Season Adventure League held every Tuesday
Bike club is free and open to any student grades 3-8. Parents and non-Chatfield students are welcome. Please sign up using this LINK and arrive by 3:45. We will do most of our riding on the new Oakdale trail system, 9 miles of single track with no road crossings. This multi-use, natural surface trail offers some amazing terrain for us to enjoy. Bikes brought in before school can be put on the bike rack near the gym or parked out by the Willows. Helmets are mandatory and we do have loaners. Please direct questions to Mr. Brady or Peter. Bike club will last approximately 8 weeks.
Students should have a mask with them and wear it when they are close together. No mask will be required once with their bike since we will be outside and practicing social distancing. Staff will wear masks when directly assisting students.

Reminder on Monitoring Symptoms and Student Wellness
This excerpt was taken from the August back to school mailing, for your reference:
We ask that as the Chatfield Learning Community we all work together with our children to achieve the common goal of keeping everyone safe.
First, we require that each family do a simple student screening at home prior to coming to school. If your child has any of the following symptoms that indicate a possible illness that may decrease the student’s ability to learn and/or put them at risk for spreading illness to others we require that you follow the protocols described below:
Symptoms
Section One
Temperature 100 degrees Fahrenheit or higher
Sore throat
New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (for student with chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline)
Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain
New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever
Sudden loss of taste or smell
Section Two
Had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) with a person with confirmed COVID-19: OR
Had close contact (within 6 feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) with a person under quarantine for possible exposure to COVID-19: OR
Had a travel history
If the answer is YES to any of the questions in Section One, but NO to all the questions in Section Two, keep your child(ren) home from school until the following are fulfilled: for fever: at least 24 hours have passed with no fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications; sore throat/ cough: improvement (if strep throat: do not return until at least 2 doses of antibiotic have been taken); diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain: no diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours; severe headache: improvement in headache.
If the answer is YES to any of the questions in Section One AND YES to any of the questions in Section Two Call your healthcare provider right away to get evaluated and tested for COVID-19. If you don’t have one or cannot be seen, go to www.mi.gov/coronavirustest or call 2-1-1 to find a location to have your child(ren) tested for COVID-19.
If the answer is YES to any of the symptom questions, but NO to any close contact/potential exposure questions, your student may return based on the guidance for their symptoms:
• Fever: at least 24 hours have passed with no fever, without the use of fever-reducing medications
• Sore throat: improvement (if strep throat: do not return until at least 2 doses of antibiotic have been taken);
• Cough/Shortness of breath: improvement
• Diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain: no diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours
• Severe headache: improvement
If your child is removed from school due to these symptoms the school is requiring a Doctor’s Note stating when the child can return to school. We know that many of these symptoms are similar to other illnesses and that is why the school is requiring a Doctor’s Note to return to school.
Parents DO NOT give your child a medication that will mask or cover up symptoms temporarily and send them to school. These symptoms are our body's warning sign that something may be wrong. This type of action only exposes other children and staff to whatever illness your child may have.
