This is How We Lakeview

October Edition - Volume 2

Hello from Lakeview!

Interim grades were posted on Wednesday so please check Infinite Campus to see how your student is doing. Remember that we are on trimesters, so your student still has time to complete missing work and/or raise their grade.

Remember to double check with your student that they are checking in for attendance on their virtual days and to check the Classroom Information Page (linked at the bottom of this newsletter) so that you know what they have coming up. There is still time to schedule Parent/teacher conferences which are on October 15th, 22nd or November 3rd.

Parents of VLA students, if you have not yet picked up your ELA novel (and trimester 1 art supplies) please call the Lakeview main office to arrange a time to pick this up. We will be in the office until 7:00 pm on October 15th and 22nd if you cannot make it during normal school hours.

Positive COVID-19 procedures

We want to clarify the steps that we take once a positive COVID-19 case is confirmed within the building.

  1. A letter is sent to the entire building (both cohorts) stating there is a confirmed case
  2. A classroom letter is sent to any person who is in class with the individual
  3. The building calls and emails anyone who is considered to be in close contact with the individual with specific instructions on next steps. The county health department may also follow up with these individuals

Families who do not receive a personal phone call are deemed to not be at risk based on contact tracing guidelines for the case in question

PTO Meeting Tuesday

We are going to have our first PTO meeting on Tuesday, October 13th at 9:00 am. This will be a virtual meeting. If you would like to attend please email Rachael Hanagan (rachael_hanagan@plsd.us) and she will send you the link.

There is still time to schedule a parent-teacher conference

Conference are October 15th, October 22nd or November 3rd. Keep in mind that conferences will be held virtually this year. If you have not done so already, please reach out to one of your student's team teachers to schedule a conference with the entire team. Electives teachers are also available for conferences, you can either request them to attend the conference with the team or schedule a separate time to meet with them.

PAW Time Update

During PAW Time our teachers and students are exploring the topic of Digital Citizenship. There will be three lessons scheduled throughout the year to help support students and families with information and resources designed to help students be safe and successful when it comes to their online presence. We want to include parents in these important conversations and have some resources to share.

Technology support hours are changing!

Starting in the month of October, the Technology Department will be adjusting their support hours to better serve students in both cohorts as well as our virtual learners. Beginning on October 5th, we will follow the below schedule each week for the month of October:

Mondays - 1:30pm to 3:30pm
Wednesdays - 9:00am to 11:00am
Fridays - 1:30pm to 3:30pm

We will still be at our Heritage location, and please continue to sign up for service using the Google Form. This helps us know how many folks we will need to prepare for.

Please note the location for tech support hours is Heritage Auditorium - you must use doors P and O (not District Office or The Elementary School).

GISA starting next week

GISA (the Gender Inclusive Student Alliance) will be starting next week on Wednesday, October 14th at 10:00am. Meetings will be held virtually to include Cohort A, Cohort B, and VLA students. GISA is a club that welcomes students of all genders and sexualities. If you are interested, email Mr. Cobb (vaughn_cobb@plsd.us) for the Google Classroom code.

As winter sports begin gearing up, keep in mind that all open gyms and other winter sports announcements will be posted on our PHSN/Lakeview Athletic website: www.pickeringtonpanthers.org. Make sure you're registered for the sport you're interested in, so you receive any communications the coaches send out, once announcements start!
